z06 but not the 405hp though
hmm that looks like pewter, and i wasn't aware of any Z06s being made in that color... or with standard gauges or single-zone a/c.
you sure that ain't a 99 or 2000 FRC? otherwise, 2001 was the only non-405hp Z06.

Exactly what I picked up on. The HVAC made me question it first, then the color.

Not that you need a Z06 to race. Once you do all the same mods one model vs the other you're in the same ballpark of performance.

"but this time I wanna buy something I can race,"

If that is the goal, the C5 seems to adapt really well to it. Plenty of guys here to guide you. You can race it and daily it. The engine can make good power off small cams and is pretty darn reliable. Go for it and have fun! Just don't rush into it. You know Vettes. Drive a few to get the feel for price vs condition before you buy. And definitely hunt and haunt FB Marketplace.... TONS of corvettes in there, some with a lot of the work you'd want done already on the car.

i actually bought my pewter FRC specifically to race + daily after adding some power, brake, & suspension upgrades to surpass Z06 capability because i like the non-Z06 transmission ratios better for road course work.

...that and the FRC was a MUCH lower-production model & therefore more a niche piece of corvette history.

See that's the thing, and FRC still will need all those upgrades, gear ratio to maybe from 2.73 to the 3.15 but z06 still a slight lower curb weight than a FRC, and not Hactchback glass c5 I had🤓. And of course the price is in the mix of it. I got to finally test drive the FRC, and I was impressed, the shifting was smooth definitely, work was done with the gear shift for certain, its 17k out the door, where's the Silver z06 asking for 31k 🤑 Test driving silver and the black z06 (in photos)

FRCs and Z06s only came with 3.42 rear ends because they all had T56s; 2.73 and 3.15 gears were only in automatic hatchbacks / convertibles.

the curb weight difference between a FRC & Z06 is negligible (windshield, wheels, & a couple other minor things). they didn't get into different aluminum/magnesium frame stuff until C6s.

as for FRCs needing upgrades:
- Z51 springs/sways ain't much softer than Z06 gear... and both could use some tightening up for track use (or don't matter at all if you swap to coil-overs).
- the only difference in brakes is paint & pads... and the pads are wear items that will eventually get changed to something better anyway.
- engine power is definitely a plus to the LS6... but the different parts easily interchange onto an LS1 if you'd like (or could be substituted for something more powerful instead).

looks like a SR20DET and a S13 generation car.
pretty stout 2L turbo 4cyl Nissan engine... was much better than the n/a 2.4L they used in the US versions of that car.

anyways we in 2025 now lol
Knowing about Vettes (Forums info, etc) vs building vettes/maintenance for people (mechanic) vs Racing are "all" different if you only did one of them. I did all 3. Chevy wanted me but I chose military service 🤷‍♂️ Never got to work again now ⚓️

so this thread is just to see what IFs. "If" I don't like either Vette I buy can just go back to my dealerships and sell easily what I bought them for. I wasn't here to show off hahaha, some people catching feelings when I already drove the Vettes they own now probably *cough Zr1 guy

I see now why people love overseas and i miss that, some of yall need to go out in travel outside of the USA. There's far more cars out there pushing 405hp + 505hp with out as much maintence as a used Vette (hint that messy 240sx was clean in the **** pit.) guy was selling people is was tired just cleaning bay after drifting. Japan different, Go see it.

Votes:
Comments are nice and all it's 50-50 now just to race or don't buy.

Again, anyways,

Daily the Vette is higher percentage for my votes 🗳.

hint: Corvette is a small warship, ⚓️ been on plenty
Corvettes are strong and I trusted them, well the Engines, is why i wanted to try different Vettes too, it was just a thing I stuck to for a long time. Most people like the stories I tell in comparing Ship to Vettes lol

But the love of Vettes are coming back for me so this the reason a made a Poll( i meant general post) bc the Voting 🗳 accurate

Wanting my kids to get into cars and see their pops (not be that boring couch potato dad) so c5 would be a good daily for them too, bc it was my first daily.

Personally I was in groups before Forums and don't remember my sign in for my old forum account 🤷‍♂️🤣

If I never had kids wouldn't be posting this thread.

First thing I looked at in a LONG TIME in awhile is the Shelby vs the z06 in my new forum bc I watched the Need For Speed movie with my kids

blah blah blah, Thanks for yall the votes.
