Default 175 thermostate

as far as I can tell there are only 3 temperature options for the tstate in my 98 LS1 on the market: 190, 180 and 165. Has anyone ever heard of a 170-175 tstate? and if so do you know where I can get it?

1998 C5, LS1. I want to lower the operating temp of the engine, or at least try to. I believe the 165 will reduce the eng temp too much. I have a 180 in now and am still looking for about another 5-8 degrees lower. I think a 175, if it exists, may do what I want. I currently have a DeWitts radiator and fan system in now. Works great.

I believe my supercharged 2000 C5 has the 165 in it, but not 100% sure. It has Dewitts radiator, but has a "front breather" Tiger Shark front clip instead of stock GM front clip. All of this was done by the previous builder. Anyway, here in the hot summer heat of Southwest Florida, my car's water/coolant temp stays cool, well below 200 degrees, even when pounding the car hard.

I’ll go out on the limb here and wager that there would be no difference between 175° and 180° thermostats. That is less than 3% different, and I don’t think wax pellet thermostats are tighter than 3% tolerance. An easier task might be to procure 3 or so 180° units, put them in cold water on the stove, bring up to temp slowly, and monitor for temperature and operation. Pick the one that opens first, noting the temperature where it opens.

^Thats an excellent observation. The temp designations on thermostats are generally close, but “..are more guidelines than actual rules”.
