Had a mishap with my sons 2004 Corvette. The insurance adjuster is talking like $10,000. But my son and I know you can’t find a car worth owning for < $20,000
Can you guys let me know any good search engines where you can input data to narrow your search. The adjuster said we have to find SOLD listings and the car has to be within 100 miles of where we live (Long Island).
His car has <60,000 miles, is black and a stick. Dealing with Insurance companies sucks.

. . This is exactly why I have Insurance through a company that ONLY handle special intrest cars.. I get to pick what my total loss payout will be. Sorry for your circumstances, but after this, PLEASE get a better Insurance carrier ..
CarGurus is my favorite search.
I find quite a few under 20K with less than 70K miles.
Not within 100 miles of you though probably.
I always search nationwide.
10K offer from an insurance company doesn't surprise me though, they always lowball.
Yeah, that deal about searching sold listings is a bunch of crap, hardly any selling sites let you do that.
I know. They just make it hard for you to justify the price. I like to see what they come up with and how.
Story: I was sitting on the LIE Driving my Corolla XRS and stopped. A car hits me from behind. I explained to the insurance guy the car was an XRS (similar to a Honda Si). He also made the requirement that I had to find 20 cars in the tristate area. I explained the XRS model was as rare as hen’s teeth and there would not be 20 examples. He claimed to have found them and offered $3700. I asked them to see the list. There was not one XRS on the list. Corolla S, CE, LE, not XRS. He searched again and found none. Expanding the search, we found a few and they were getting top dollar.
My point to this is I know it’s a PITA. It takes a while and sucks. But they just do not like to hand out money.
I'm going to search this site and see what comes up for 2004.
JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION. As a retired () Insurance adjuster/supervisor/manager/executive/officer/consultant, my advice to all is that should you feel your vehicle is worth a certain $$, then find a carrier that is willing to insure it for what you think it is worth. There are many market anomalies that affect price such as location, demand, availabilty, and economy that insurance carriers will use to determine the price. Also, insurance carriers that are direct writers vs. agency written have different policies working with their customers with help to resolve issues.

My sons car. His call. He pays and I WILL make the recommendation.
Is Ciocci (spelling?) Chevrolet, in Atlantic City, out of your 100 mile range? They specialize in Corvettes, and might have something in stock that you could use, as an example of what your car should be worth.

You can't say that and not share the company! We need to know!
This the lesson on specified amount agreed value insurance. I paid $22K and insured for $25k.
Bad time of year for comps not as many Corvettes for sale and prices are down on many that are. Around May prices go up.
I wonder if you could get an appraiser to give a pre crash value based on what is left. If you get rear ended you can generally tell the cars condition by the front end. Only if it burns you are screwed.
The insurance company is full of it with their claimed 100 mile requirement.
Do they think it's worth zero if you can't find one within 100 miles? Of course not.
Find comparable cars irregardless of distance.
