Default Z06 Front Grills

Does the Z06 have a functional air intake behind the front screens?

The ZO6 grills allow air into the area where the air box is. So yes, they do breathe thru these screens. So much so that the engine compartment does not get nearly as dirty on my ZO6 than it did on my coupe.

rb,

I am just wingin' it here. The screens on the ZO6 allow air into the area where the air box is. Am I correct? The coupes have no such provision so the air is taken from underneath the car which ends up sucking up a lot of crap(read dust here). Maybe I need to take a better look at both cars to see if I am way off the mark here. What I do know is that I do not have to work as hard to keep the engine area clean on my ZO6. SOmeone help me out here.

I am not sure how the LS1 gets any air at all other than sucking it through cracks around the hood. That's why I am considering adding these cold air grills to the front of the car that allow air in. Most of the air from under the car is forced through the radiator via a plastic shroud. Best I can tell none of that air makes it to the filter. If it did it would be hot by the time it made it to the filter. These grills appear to be a pain in the butt to install. I already had the local Chevy dealer turn me down and send me to a body shop for Christ's sake!!!

It's a pain alright! I think the front end cap was put together as a unit and then installed on the car. The grills and I assume the black plastic inserts coupes have, are held on by pressed on metal clips with one-way teeth!! They slip on easy, but are a royal biaaatch to get off, have fun :)

I removed my head light surrounds and the front rubber hood stops so I could get my arm down there, and used needle nose pliers to pull the clips off. My add on foglights need adjusting so I'm glad I didn't put all the clips back on.

In your original post it sounded like you were saying that your coupe's engine got dirtier than the Z06. I think the opposite would happen.

Maybe I misunderstood your first post. You wrote:

rb,

That is exactly what I meant. The ZO6 is breathing air thru the front of the car whereas the Coupe is having to suck it right off the ground(path of least resistance I would assume). Regardless of the dynamics, my ZO6 engine compartment stays a lot cleaner than my Coupe's did.....for whatever reason.

Take a look under the car and you will see that it is not sucking right off the ground. The car is sealed quite well under the nose with the shroud and both the LS1 & LS6 are sealed in the same manner. Everything under the car is sealed up (aerodynamics). The LS6 should get dirtier than an LS1.
