Been looking for an inexpensive V8 muscle car for weekend warrior duties. From research, a base C5 M6 coupe looks best on paper. But I've never owned a vette so I don't really know for sure. Are there any M6 coupe owners here in the St. Petersburg, FL area that would be willing to show off theirs? I'll buy you a beer or 3 for your trouble. I promise I'm not a serial killer or even a bad dude at all...just ask my mother . Shoot me a PM if your game.
A round trip to the dealer would be about 110 miles. Certainly doable, but seems a bit excessive to look at a car I may not even like. But that's on me. Thanks for the tip. The coupe looks interesting.
55 miles away to look at a car is excessive?? You are obviously not a serious buyer, if that's true.

100 miles? That's too far??? Christ, I drove 1000 mile round trip to check out my current C5 (and I never even left the province) lol.
Do yourself a favour, take a nice drive through the beautiful Carolinas, Georgia, make a day of it, have some fun, check out some pretty southern girls, grab a cheeseburger and a beer
C5 did not start to make real HP until the Ls6 motor, that came in the Z06 cars.
C3 cars after 72, came with 350 truck motors for the most part, was semi worse in the C4 cars with all the air pollution crap on the motors with them under powered as well (short of the merc engine in the C4 ZR1), and again, until later C5 years with the LS6 motor in the C5 Z06 cars.
So short of C5 Z06, or just going to C6 where the basic LS2 engine was putting out 411hp, why can you find some of the older vets so cheap in the first place since really not higher HP cars to start with..
As for vets, really trying to find a used clean model, color. option package you want, it more of a country wide search, than lucking out to find it local isntead.

If you live in St. Petersburg - Sarasota is just a short trip over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.......

Thanks for the perspective. The whole idea behind this was to see if I want to own a hooligan V8 car. Sort of a bucket list item. I have more work to do!

Definitely not a serial killer. The majority of those folks will drive quite a distance to fulfill their impulsivities and throw the authorities off their scent.
Tough crowd here sometimes...only advice I'll give is try to drive both; a "base" and a Z06. You'll thank me later.
The C5 is an amazing platform but wow what they did with the Z06 (it's more than just a motor). Also, that drop dead sexy roof line.
Last thing, sounds like you just got bit by the Vette bug...you still have time to turn around but not much. If you go looking, remember to enjoy the hunt!

I would agree that you really need to drive an example of each model (coupe/convertible/Z06 (or FRC)). An hour's drive is not a bad deal if it results in you being able to check out cars you are interested in.

Seriously? That's like driving to my mom's house and back which is how far I went to find mine ( I actually got lucky as I was considering even farther states). Sheesh. Seems worth the drive since they literally have 3 versions of the C5 to test drive.
