Purchased my first vette woot! Previous owner painted the back lettering and I’d like it off. I’ve tried bug and tar remover, goo gone, and non-acetone nail polish remover, along with an electric power washer. Two-ish hours and a chunk of the paint is off the C but damn, I don’t want to spend this kind of time on the rest of it
any other ideas? I’ve read to not use oven cleaner. Obviously don’t want to damage the clear coat.
Anything that takes it off will get the base paint too.
Take it to a body shop and get it fixed right, probably looking at repainting after getting the black off.
Is this the recessed letters, or 3D molded letters applied to the recessed letters? Photo looks to me as though it's the latter, in which case the answer would be to remove the molded letters currently applied, and then apply letters that meet your taste. https://www.zip-corvette.com/97-04-r...d-letters.html

That's what I thought as well. I have chrome letters inserted into the letter channels. Might try heat and fishing line to "pry" each letter off.

Yeah, those do look like the 3D letters that are attached with double sided tape. A hair dryer can be used to soften the tape and you should be able to gently pry up the letters then use some goo-gone to remove any adhesive residue that may remain.
Now I look closer it is stick on letters. Just put some lighter fluid on them and the will pull off. No need for Gish line or anything else. It will not hurt the paint.
Not a super clear photo...is this the black adhesive left behind from the stick-on lettering or did the previous owner actually paint inside the oem channels? I used a heat gun, plastic tools and goof-off to get the adhesive off of mine. If they actually painted inside the channels then I'd take to a body shop so they can mask off and paint it color matched to your car
