Default Door shell

I noticed that some C5s have swage lines on their doors while others don’t. Are you able to buy door shells that don’t have a swage line if you you currently have them or vice versa?

Never mind, I found out that they are stuck on with adhesive, not part of the door, and can be taken off easily.

I assume you are talking about the body side moldings. They were an option on the car and can be removed.

The molding was an option. Tapes on. people add and remove these often. They are generally called stingers.

just use care if you are not painting as the paint can be faded on some cars under the strip.

Lighter fluid will remove the adhesive and it will pull right off.

Apparently, they actually help with aerodynamics (marginally). I don't know if it was intentional or accidental by GM.

It was very much intentional. My '01 didn't have them and I could only do a measly 175mph. My '03 has them and now I can go 5000mph

🤔 I heard if removed it leaves a mark that's not removable from the paint of the door.... True?
There probably by way of designers fine tuning for high speed stability... GM doesn't have the capability of such intricate thinking do they.

The way I was told it was put on as a door guard but they claimed it aided in aero.

But the C5R racers did not have them.

GM or done salesman may have added that to add sales.

Depends on the color and condition. A paint faded car or color yes it will leave a mark. Good paint not likely to leave a mark.

it was just a door protection. It was never used on the race cars. But GM did add the larger quarter panels as they did reduce drag. If you remove the rear panel for the plate it makes it even more aero.

The SAE book on the Corvette development does a deep dive on the C5 aero for track use. It tells what many get tight and many we see get it wrong.
