The time has come to sell my C5 6 speed convertible. It’s a clean title 2001 with just under 60k The good is low mileage on the tires, a new clutch assembly with a tick master cylinder (slave was leaking), and a 2 year old Robbin’s top. The bad is the black paint on the hood and trunk are shot, the tan top needs cleaning,
the AC compressor leaks at the seals and it needs new rotors. I will be selling it with a new compressor kit and new Willwood rotors and performance friction pads. Any thoughts on a fair asking price in the Florida panhandle? Thanks!
With the AC leaking, break rotors need replacing, black in Florida, and top stained, 16K maybe. If you want near or top value, fix the AC, replace the rotors and clean the top.
18 months ago, I bought a 2002 vert with 51k miles for $15k and thought I got a good deal in SW Florida. It was a spotless garage queen. it was automatic. Your vehicle is worth what a buyer is willing to pay. Age of tires is more important than miles. Needing AC work, paint and possibly more if I found a buyer with $13k or more I would take the money. Just sayin
In present condition maybe $13k. Part of the challenge is price point, the other is getting a sale. A good professional complete detail will definitely help both aspects. Fixing the brakes an AC will help remove obstacles in selling it.
You mention the hood & trunk paint being "shot"
Do you mean it needs repainting or just detailing??
Looks like clear coat failure from the pics
It looks like a small project from the onset. I would definitely get the things fixed that need it. It will boost the price from the 13k to near 18k IMO.
The visibly damaged paint is an instant deterrent, no matter the low miles and overall mechanically good condition. Especially for buyers seeking a convertible. The rest is secondary. Have a detail shop do what they can with the paint. Or not. Because their cost might not increase the sale value enough to warrant the work.
If for sale...
The way it looks as presented... is **** poor... Show some class, clean it up.
Of course that would be false advertising 🤔.... You're screwed, or is the next guy.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I”ll probably list if for $13k and see what happens. I know fixing the AC and brakes will add more value, but I’m not sure I’d recover expenses. Honestly, I just want it out of the driveway.
