Default C5 Z06 windshield

What are people doing to replace a C5 Z06 windshield? Apparently shops in St. Louis area cannot get them.

I hadn't had to do it yet, but I believe they are just using the regular C5 windshield

If you can't get the Z06 windshield, your only option may be to use a regular C5 windshield as mentioned above. Didn't know that it would be that difficult to find a Z06 one, especially in a place as big as St Louis.

The most difficult part to find is the rubber gaskets/mounting bits. I had to re-use mine the last time I replaced the windshield.

Mine came off perfectly fine and reusable.

I need one myself, I've been searching for 8 months with no luck.
I'm now down to watching FB marketplace for wrecked C5 Z06s with good windshields otherwise I'm going to go with a std C5 windshield

I believe there was a special film to make it more visible. Seems I recall hearing that the regular windshield still works though. Just not as visible in bright light maybe.

What was GM's pitch for using the light windshield? 132 in place of 130mph?

weight savings. Lighter windshield, less insulation manual passenger seat, etc.

As others mentioned, HUD is still readable. I added HUD to my 01 Z06 with what I assume is the stock non-HUD windshield. HUD image shows up, but you can't really see it on a bright day with polarized sunglasses. Otherwise it's reasonably visible.

Thanks for all of the replies. The problem is I can't find a company that will put a standard windshield in the car. If anyone knows someone in the St. Louis area that will, let me know. Mine is so pitted it sucks when the sun is low. Thanks.

They dont want to work on the vette, or are they saying they wont do it because it isnt the right windshield. I know I have seen guys use a regular windshield on these. If they wont do it, thats crazy!

It's always because it isn't the correct windshield. I assume they don't want to risk a leak issue.

Yeah...
Big deal twenty years ago. Lightweight windscreen make you go fast! 🙄
Seems as this cute gimmick is no longer useful and may be disregarded..... Sorta of a GM fluff thing?
The biggest problem is SEEing!.. with the headlights On it doesn't matter about windshield thickness if one's headlights are this GM design. 😂

Not really a gimmick.

When it came to the C5 they cut weight in many small ways that added up. 2 pounds high up matter and combined with a half pound here and there add up.

Even the plastic in the wheel wells is thinner than normal.

Cool... What's that get ya? Well... Government
I wonder if the US government with their infamous wisdom and ability to "get involved" with car design rules and involvement in automotive engineering design,... particularly the C5's design... has anything to do with today's fix and fixablility? Some things with C5 are un-fixabable I'm finding out!.. Is that the US government being involved?
