New Here..
Came to introduce myself, and maybe get some pointers.
Names' Don - I am a resident of New Brunswick, Canada, but originally from Newfoundland. I recently just inherited the family 97' C5. My father of 62 lost his battle to Cancer, he was a mechanics mechanic. Body work to brakes, if it rolled over he'd fix it - from the frame to the paint - he was your guy.
Me, well I bought a 24 BMW 440I - as my toy last year, I say this to instill that I like my cars generally new, but I was - since the age of 4 following dad around in the shop. Now I have his baby, which we purchased in Maine in 2009. There's been really no work done to it yet. I'm compiling a list of things that must be done. but I tell ya, I'm frightened to death of screwing up the old man's ride, yet I intend to turn every wrench myself - because that is what he would do.
Pictures will come.
Current issues:
-AC is not blowing cold.
-Brother in law, broke the passenger side wiper washer elbow, to which I managed to get one at napa but I'm not quite sure if that will work.
-molding is separated from the cowl, where it meets the glass. I've come to terms that finding a new cowl might be optimistic, but I found some handing "Edge trim" at a local autoparts store that seems like it'll fit the bill.
-Fuel smell if filled up over a few liters. this has been ongoing, dad just stopped to fill up every little bit - but I want to fix that. fuel vaporized around hot engines could be disastrous
and I generally want to replace the plugs/wires, fluids, etc.
- Driver side seat, was doing odd things and it looked like he just pulled the plug on the switch.
I can do a set of brakes, and I'm pretty thought out on researching far ahead of time, but I'm as occasionally like a child.
I don't mind if people drop links, or even just helpful hints on how to use the forum. I just wanted to say hello and get a feel for the community. I want this to be a project car that last a few years, but eventually hauls ***, drives smooth, and looks flashy. So I can go for a drive, with dad. Hoping to take from the experience here, and make it a reality
Thanks for saying Hi.
Cheers
Don

Enjoy working on the car and all of the awesome memories of your dad it will spark! Then once you get it all addressed, go enjoy the car like your dad would have! Every time I spin a wrench and either do something stupid or forget something simple, I always hear my dad in the back of my head saying "Damn it boy! Did your momma drop you on your head when I was at work?" And of course I smile, shake my head and miss him a bit!
Checking back in.
Eventful week, repaired/replaced wiper arms. placed a piece of carbon fibre edging where the old trim was on the moulding on the cowl. Before I got into the crossover tube, I checked the gas cap. It was rotted away inside, so new gas cap and no more smell. I'm sure the crossover tube will be a thing eventually but for now.. life is good.
However, an opportunity has struck me. I've had begun the journey of trying to figure out .. wheels. the old mans wheels were wagon wheels which he painted a glossy black. So I've started piecing together my upgrades and just for kicks, I put it in facebook market place.
I ran across a gentlemen who is retire selling a set of 18 and 19 rims respectively, nearby for about 800$ USD (1200CAD). I believe their off a C6 - which I believe is interchangeable with the c5.
so I'll copy into the pictures, and I'm hoping if someone spots an issue, or would like to educate me on the finer ideas of tire size, and more importantly.. Caliper clearance. I would appreciate it, otherwise I'm diving into the forums:
market place post: " Rims are off my 2008 Corvette and in excellent condition Fronts 245/35R18 Backs 285/35R19 " I wouldn't come for opinions except I really think these fit the bill and the the price is right.
