Default New Shifter Boot Length

Ordered a MGW shifter and decided to replace the crusty shifter boot and e brake boot. Question is, how much shorter should I get the new boot to accommodate the new MGW?

I believe the magic number is to trim about 1inch.

Throwing this back out there, because I’m not sure if there is a difference between the flat stick and regular short throw. I went with the flat stick and want make sure that shortening the new shifter boot by 1” will still be sufficient.
