Default Harmonic Balancer Replacement

Looking to replace the harmonic balancer and wanted to know what’s a good one to go with? I was looking on Summit and ATI has several different ones, what are a few to consider? Anyone with the Trickflow balancer?

A lot of people use the Summit racing C2501
I use the ATI or go cheap with the Powerbond PB1117N but, definitely get a new front seal and get the ARP bolt

I recently changed mine for the Powerbond PB1117SS along with the ARP bolt and new crank seal. I'm pretty happy with it.

*Unpopular Opinion Alert* but, when I had the balancer changed on my ‘99 a couple years ago, I did it at the dealer, was under $1k, and would be covered with a 2-year warranty.

How will you be using the car?
Big power mods on the engine, extended high RPM use?

Use the Summit. It is more than you will ever need with the SFI rating. It cheaper than the ATI and it will not fail agsin like Powerbond or the factory one.

Trick Flow is the same as summit just black and more expensive. Same SFI rating.

In the performance parts industry you generally avoid cheaper but often the same mfg will make the same parts and they are sold at different prices. The Summit one sells at high volume so they can charge you less and still be a top quality unit.

Only power mods I’m looking at would be cam and full exhaust down the road. Mostly just cruising and having with it. No road course or strip racing.

Then you don't need to spend the money on something like the ATI, a basic balancer will do just fine, but if you want a little extra protection then the Summit Racing unit mentioned is more than you will ever need.
Is the OE balancer bad on it now?
Otherwise I wouldn't even fool with it until it needs it.

I went with the ATI. Piece of mind that I will NEVER have to do it again. I would suggest to do the cam at the same time. Everything will have to come back apart when you do the cam. Not an overly complicated job, just a PITA removing the steering rack.

It has a little wobble going on. Rather do it now before it does any damage.

Witness mark it.

This way you can tell if it really is failing or not.

Yes replace the front seal. ARP bolt, if you have high miles might consider the oil pump. Same on water pump. Also do the belts. Check front cover for leaks.

You may not need all that but at higher miles now us the time.

ATI if you are going to do hard racing and modification.

Summit if you are remaining stock or mild mods like a cam etc.

Stock or power bond if you are selling the car.
