I recently bought a car from a Copart auction – it was a bit damaged, but nothing too bad. I'm planning to fully restore it and would love to know a bit more about its past.
I saw that the car had one owner for the last 18 years , so I was wondering – would it be possible to get in touch with the previous owner?
I would be satisfied with only passing my information to him and counting for the best.
I’d just like to chat and learn a bit about the car’s history.
Any way to do that ?

If the previous owner happened to leave a document in the car that had name/address on it that obviously would be a good starting point. I think you will find that many businesses that may have records on past ownership will be reluctant if not totally refuses to disclose any info due to privacy concerns. Good luck though on your attempt to find out more about the car you bought.
Most, if not all, states have privacy laws that prevent "regular" people from accessing information on previous or current owners. However, private detectives have access to the DMV database and find the info. After my dad passed away a few years ago, I used one to find the current owner of an old car he and I built together in the 80s. For a couple hundred bucks I got the info and the current owner lives about ten miles from me...turns out he's owned it for almost 30 years. Knocked on his door, showed some pics of me and the car to prove I built it, and now I'm in talks to repurchase the car to bring it back into the family.
Might be worth a call to a local PI to see if it's possible.
I was able to get the police report for my wrecked Vette. Not for the purposes of finding the previous owner (he was literally as far across the country as could be from me) but just knowing what happened to the car.
I found a mechanic in carfax where car was serviced. It was long time ago but decided to try.
They have responded saying they can't provide owner name , but they have send him email with my contact details. Hoping for the best!
Do a google search of the vin.
I just did one on the C5 that I just bought and found that the previous owner was registered as a member here on this forum.

He did ! He purchased some decals and left invoice in the trunk !
I will try to contact him. I don’t even want anything from him. I think I would like to know what happened to a car that I have owned for 18 years
Update ! Found the owner on FB , there is a post where he is complaining that someone hit his car that he owned for 21 years
Pinged him already on massager.
