Default 2002 brake switch access

ok so in another thread I laid out my turn signal problems which seem to be resolved with a new flasher switch but....................No brake lights . Have a new brake light switch but after wedging myself under the dash and thinking it would be right above the brake pedal, I can't see it or feel it. And help with finding it retracting it and replacing it would be appreciated. 78 year old body just is not as flexible as it once was!

got under the dash again after removing the knee bolster. Looks like there is a large plastic shroud cover more of the underside area. assume this needs to be removed to get at the switch . This this correct?

Yes, the other plastic close out panel has to come out to get to the switch.
Check the white wire coming off the switch, make sure it is not cut. This wire splits the brake lights from the turn signal.

Bear in mind the brake lights go through the flasher switch as well. My brake lights -- except the third light -- died completely. Turn signals and flashers worked and third brake light worked. Searched the forum and the google and wires and such. Found several references for either the flasher or the multifunction switch (yep, the brake light go through that too). So check your third light before going too much farther. If it's working then your new flasher may be defective -- far from an unknown occurrence.
