My 04 Commemorative- hood liner looks ratty and want to replace. Hood insulation, from the edges, appears to be in good condition. Does new liner attach to insulation with adhesive. If so what kind. Also is hood removal required to do a good job?
The entire liner (fabric and insulation is one unit) removes easily by removing the pushpins. I removed mine, reattached the fabric to the insulation by careful application of 3M adhesive, then spraying the unit with automotive fabric paint. Looks better than new.
new/old stock is near impossible to find if you want a factory one. I found one a couple of years back and it cost me more to ship from the dealership in Florida to Texas than the part did. RPI has new ones but it has the color C5 logo
Hood removal is necessary to correctly install RPI or Southern Car Parts aftermarket liners with adhesive spray. I was fortunate enough to find a new original one from a GM dealer that shipped to my house without charging freight costs (around $200 total). I've heard you can also get them shipped to your local dealership and then go to pick it up if you want to avoid the freight shipping (~$300 or so).
Factory is push pins. If you just need to re glue it get some 3M upholstery adhesive spray. It will put it right back in place.
If the color need freshened up use some upholstery spray dye. you can spray it and restore the black color. Just a light spray does it. As long as it is not torn up you can restore the factory material easy.
