I was at a cruise in tonight and ran into a 2000 Corvette Convertible for sale. 32,000 miles, auto, air, black on black, MINT for 20,500. Is there any common issues with this particular year Corvette. I know nothing about C-5's. Thank you to all in advance. Steve Ohio
Well the LS1 has, like all C5 the harmonic balancer ( look for a wobble when looking at it ) you want to test or see if the Torque tube is OK. you can google it. Good Luck !
If the electronic brake control module has failed your traction control and ABS lights will stay lit on the dash. The part is not available and often not repairable. Activate the anti-lock brakes during the test drive.
Convertibles with black seats can be a problem if you live in southern sunny areas. If you leave the top down outside your garage, you'll find it very painful to sit on hot seats. I learned this after buying a Miata and have since bought two C5 verts with light color seats. On some of these the rear window detaches from the top and needs to be reglued. If you like it and it drives well, buy it!
Nothing major on that car other than the normal things.
it does have the Bosch stability computer. Not so thing that always fails but if it dies the options to fix it is another used unit. It can’t be repaired at this points.
If not well versed in C5 buy this book now and know what to look for.
Check the roof condition and how well the rear window is in.
For the most part these cars are trouble free but if you get a bad one it can be the Corvette from hell like any used car with troubles.
At 32k miles it should be in good shape. Check for codes and get it on a lift to check for oil leaks and damage.
if modified check how it was done and how well it was done. Some folks do mods right others can trash a car. See if they have documentation.
As for the seats I’m in Ohio so not a big deal/ 90% of these cars are black interior.
But get the book over night if needed as it will answer ever issue.
Note too pull the battery make sure no acids damage is under it.
my car is a red 2002 bkack interior and new roof in Ohio. It is like new.
Note the sests. Parts are easy to get and fix if it ticks or need lower foam. Not a desl breaker if the leather is good.
Check under the nose for scrape damage. It is a good indicator of previous care.
2000 C5, Not a convertible. 6 years now. Bought it with 26k and now have about 36k on the odometer. No real issues except a few normal items and regular maintenance. Good luck.
Read the Sticky Threads at the top of this section of the forum. 1997-2000 Corvettes have a few more potential issues. BUT not worth passing on a quality one you like.
I agee light colored interiors are better on conv's. had several of each. Look for wear on the side bolsters on the driver's seat. Tilt release for the steering wheel is sometines wonky. Conv top in good shape? Clean overall especially the engine compartment and trunk?
Also, have your favorite mechanic inspect and give your car a complete bill of health. Best advice .
....In reading about issues with the 2000 Corvette, it mentioned that there are a few parts that are no longer available from GM. Has anyone experienced having to locate said parts such as EBCM ???

EBCM is a challenge to find but not impossible - just expensive. On my ‘00 I had excessive oil consumption, several rear diff seals go bad but that was about it.
