You're not going to believe this but I was just searching for Key Fob's because my casing is cracked. Here's a link to OEM GM Key Fob. You will probably have to go to the dealer to get a Key made.
I replaced my fob for my 2000 a couple years ago. The 97-00 are much more expensive than the 01-04. I think something to do with passive entry mode on the earlier C5's
Be sure the place you have it programmed will do a fob that you bought somewhere else. ACE Hardware won't do any but their own.
I programed all my own fobs. Quick easy and free. Sometimes they come with instructions Sometimes just google it. The last one I recall key and fob working all under $70.00.
I received a $120 Amazon gift card from a recent car rental, so my fob was essentially free. The key off eBay was about $50 with tax and shipping. So combined I’m coming out pretty good. The local Ace Hardware can handle the cutting. If they don’t want to, there’s Home Depot just down the street.
YouTube has videos about programming the fob and it looks like a 5 minute job. Something right up my alley
2 weeks ago, I stopped by the dealer to inquire about getting a spare key. The wanted 75 for the key and 50 to cut it. Bought 2 keys on eBay for $57 shipped for both. Local Locksmith charged 30 to cut both. So, for $43.50 each (87 total) I have 2x new keys instead of $125 for one. Shop around and save. A year or so ago I ordered a FOB of off of Ebay and it programed just fine.

Why do you think they are charging so much to cut the key?
I bought one of each of these last October and they programmed just fine and work great. I opened them up to put the batteries in and sure enough they are what they claim to be. I would recommend them by far just for cost alone. This was a part of my TPMS/Fob radio upgrade.

Know any place that sells just the damn fob case? The 97-2000 are double the price new they used to be. The 01-04 you can buy the whole key fob 2 for $15. This is insane for the 97-2000. I just need the black plastic shell. My fob works fine. Can’t find a single place that sells the plastic fob case only or even a rubber overlay. I can’t seem to find anyone with a non functioning fob that will sell me their plastic case. I guess everyone just tosses them away when they quit working?

Actually only the 97-99 had the passive switch. The 2000 was the only year that did not have it and 01 to 04 they discontinued them all together and changed out the receivers and fobs. I have a 2000 and my fob and shell only fit my year and why they’re $138. They were $65 on here some years back. I’m in need of a 2000 fob shell. Mines worn but my remote fob still works

Those are pretty standard size fob's for GM's of that time period, I wonder if you just needed the case, buy a cheap one for a GM xxx and just swap your guts? I found some for 24 bucks for 2 fobs and they look identical. These are for:
