My '01 C5 with 46k miles needs some work.
The parking brake doesn't hold
Car heats up (235* ish) at low speed run cool at 45+ mph
Have original plugs still installed. But still runs strong
. Not sure if I should have my C5 tuned.
So I need to take the car in and have the above looked at.
Can someone please recommend a shop to do the above work?
Parking brake is an easy enough adjustment job for any mechanic that's worked on brakes before. Shouldn't matter what type of car. Coolant temp sounds like that's within GM range. Nothing wrong there I don't think. But wouldn't hurt to clean the fins on the radiator and condenser just to be safe. Maybe change the coolant also if you haven't done that in a while. Plugs should be fine too. A tune would be up to you depending on how much you want it or willing to spend on one. I'm nowhere near mich so I can't say who to take it to. Good luck.
Thanks for the reply.
I did replace the coolant & washed out the radiator.
As stated above, when running at about 40 mph the car runs cool. So maybe Im over thinking it....
I really didn't want to have the car tuned, but was concerned the plugs have not been changed in 24 years. The car still runs strong. No hesatation or missing when I get on it..
Regarding the parking break... think I should take it to a Chevy dealer or a break repair shop?

Any repair shop should be able to fix your parking brake or change your plugs…why do you think your car needs to be “tuned” if it is stock ??

There is Westside Corvettes in Troy - I never used them but did call them once and owner seemed extremely nice and helpful. Tell
me if you end up going there how the visit was.

when you say tuned are you meaning like a tuneup like older cars used to get? Having your plugs changed along with air filter, fluids changed especially if you don’t know the maintenance history is a good idea, when you say tuned here people will think your are talking about changing the computer configurations to optimize recent engine mods such as headers, intake, supercharger etc.
Sorry for the confusion....Im old school. Tune up to me is change the plugs, etc.
As I stated earlier, the car has original plugs. Only 46k miles but 25 years old.
Well the cooling system problem is kinda high, ( my 03 runs 200 to 210 in stop and go summer traffic ) but my car is all stock, but I have invested in a small screen for blocking any trash from getting sucked up and blocking the Condenser and Radiator, you can get one from most any Corvette retailer. But I also have my stock air dam is in place and undamaged, you wouldn't believe how many corvettes I see with damaged or missing air dam. Every Corvette from 1968 to 2005 are called Bottom Feeders simply because they all have cooling air ingested from under the front of all those cars. it works fine but it is important to make sure it is in good condition, and the trash screen is in place. Two weeks ago I was looking at a 2001 that was running hot and you would believe me it had a whole dark green trash bag sucked on into the front A/C condenser & Radiator, the car was running and once I got the trash bag out you could see the engine temperature dropping sitting in the driver's seat. When I bought my first C5 I purposely bought a new GM air dam for the car. A cooler car is one running with the radiator clear and clean and the fans coming on by 210 degrees. Personally I'd skip a tune till you get the car sorted and running cool.
