Hi folks, I tend to use Wheelskins leather covers for my Corvettes but I’ve noticed what <look> nice are some of those molded covers that just install over the wheel. When they first came out most were pretty bad IMO, but they’ve come a long way. I recently saw products from ‘Maxspeeding” and I was wondering if anyone had experience with them as well.
Thanks in advance!
ChasG
I've used Wheel skins in the past for 2 different vehicles and loved them. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on Wheel skins again, but haven't yet. That looks really interesting, I might need to order that instead.
Their website seems deceiving, though. It shows $49.99, but as soon as you attempt to change anything it jumps to $90.

How difficult was installing the wheelskins covers ?
I’m very detail oriented and I’ve done various leatherwork in the past, so I wanted it to be perfect. Pictured is my first installation. When I changed the color of the stitching for the entire interior, I ordered a special orange thread from a specialty house and then double doubled it because it was a bit thin and I really wanted to see the color. Took close to 2 hours but it was worth the time.
The only trouble with Wheelskins is how it fits over spokes, especially wide ones like we have. You will see in the pic here and on their website. If you view the instructions from them and MaxSpeeding you will see that the Max covers address the spoke problem with great detail so someone would think you had a totally custom wheel.
I can't help with Wheelskins or Maxspeeding 🤪 but please have a look what we have here: https://www.redlinegoods.com/C5shiftboot.php - we not only make steering wheel covers available in multitude of colors and options, but also many other leather interior accessories for Vettes

Well, Jack, I’m one of your satisfied customers and have recommended you for years!! I didn’t know you did wheels now. I’m going to look. How’s Maciek?
**I noticed that the steering wheel covers for Corvette still require removal of the original. I’d rather not get into that process.

The reason is that our C5s are 20+ years old now and the original leather is often worn, torn, or delaminating so removing it seems the best way to proceed.
However, we can redesign our C5 template to make it fit over original leather - but in this case, the seams will be a tad thicker than the rest of the wrap due to the edges of leather being folded to the underside. See this example:
