OK, how difficult is putting on a new shift boot ?
I'm looking for inspiration on taking out the console and installing a new shift boot and shift ****. If you have done this where did you find a different leather boot, and or a shift ****, and how was putting in a new boot, I have a 2003 with the 4L60 automatic ?
It's been awhile since I installed mine, but it's not to difficult really. Just take your time and remember that the plastic stuff can break easily. I got my shifter boot from redline goods and the custom **** is a ball type with the automatic adaptor to let the ball work. Been like this for quite a few years and still looks great.
I have the manual trans in my C-5, and there's a "plastic retaining ring" that holds the shift boot in place. You carefully squeeze the ring inward, and it will release and let the boot come off, after you've removed the shift ball. There's no need to remove the console.
I think the only aggravating part with the automatic is getting the hole around the shift indicator lined up when forcing the bottom ring onto the mount. I got the **** and adapter from Twisted Shifterz. I had the adapter cut down some at a local machine shop.
