My my wife and I are members at both Costco and BJ's. My local BJ's still sells Mobil 1 and I just bought some 6-packs of quart bottles for $31.49 (sale price). My local Wal-Mart has Mobil 1 in 5-quart jugs for $27.99 or $29.99
Personally, with a stock short block, I would not use an oil unless it is GM Dexos 1 Gen 3 licensed.
Entirely possiable that Warren or another local refiner made it; that's the model Castrol works on. Really, all that matters is the API Medallion on the bottle. If It's the right weight (5W30) and SN+ or better, the oil is fine for the Corvette. The API are the real tests of any lubricant, everything else is just marketing.
Dexos is a marketing term GM uses to get licensing fees out of oil companies, it has no really engineering behind it.
Wal Mart’s Supertech brand oil full synthetic is Dexos certified.
It’s about $17.99 for 5 qt jug of 5W30 full synthetic, used it in mother in laws car with Supertech oil filter, Mobile one full synthetic 5W30 5 qt jug is $27.99 at Walmart,Mobile One oil filter is around $12.00.
Have thought of using the Supertech full synthetic in my C5 but just pay the extra for piece of mind.
Actually thinking of switching to Valvoline restore and protect $29.99 5 qt jug at Walmart on C5, no sludge but it sounds like it’s better oil.
The Kirkland/Costco oil is made by Warren oil. It is good oil that I used for many years. However they got bought by the Pritzker family (Hyatt hotels) PE group in 2020 and for that reason alone I will never buy that oil again.
Post 2020, I started using NAPA synthetic made by Ashland/Valvoline. Last year I bought 100 quarts of the Valvoline, Restore and Protect (0-20 and 5-30). We own four cars and I maintain several others. I use a lot of oil. I got the 100 quarts in the form of "Bay Boxes" with handy spigot for $3.85 a quart last year. Nothing wrong with Wally World oil either.
Use whatever oil you want, just change it!
