A few years ago my 2002 vert (M6) was lost in a hurricane flood. After an extensive search I replaced it with a local find, but it only had two pedals on the floor being an automatic. Being a senior owner living in a crowded traffic area I decided it would work. This week at 54,000 miles the shift cable failed. Using U-tube I purchase the six-dollar bushing known for failure below the shifter. I took the console apart to find that part was ok but I needed a full cable replacement. I no longer have a lift (and am old) so I heated up the Visa card. $866.40 (included towing) fixed my problem. I miss my car with three pedals. Always something!
Well, you never know, had you the stick something could have gone sour on it too, none are perfect and totally trouble free.
At least you now have a new shift cable, so you shouldn't have to worry about that again anytime soon.

Were you able to secure an OEM cable replacement? I have a 2004 and I read earlier that the OEM part is hard to find but there are aftermarket replacements.
If this was the first time your new (to you) A4 C5 Corvette had the trans cable replaced, 54,000 miles + 24 years is a good run for GM nylon grommets.
