I remember hearing that some people were have surging problems when they put a Blackwing on their '02 Z06. I was wondering if there was a definitive answer, or solution, regarding this claimed problem. Is it something that just varies with the particular car, which could be "tuned" out? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks.
Re: Do the '02s have a problem with a Blackwing? (wamara)
Only thing I noticed after installing my blackwing and this was on the dyno BTW was that I gained around 10HP and TQ on the low end but lost about 13HP on the topend. Using the Predator I was able to regain what I lost on the topend and keep that extra on the lowend and a bit more. But I never noticed any surging.
here is a graph showing stockand blackwing.
graph after leaning it back out with the Predator.
run1 = stock
run4 = stock tune + blackwing
run12 = blackwing + tweaked predtune
Re: Do the '02s have a problem with a Blackwing? (Airwolf)
No problem with mine, gained peak of almost 11 rwhp and about same on torque, after driving for 2500 miles, no codes, then threw on the real ram air..a vortech supercharger :lol:
Re: Do the '02s have a problem with a Blackwing? (JWC80)
It is a hand held programming device that plugs into your obdII port. Your stock GM computer tuning program can be uploaded and stored in the device and the custom tuning program in the Predator is then downloaded to to the ECM. For more info read the posts in the scan and tune section posted by RWTD and others.
Re: Do the '02s have a problem with a Blackwing? (mqqn)
I had a problem with mine. I actually felt like I lost power. I don't still have the article, its been over a year ago, but an engineer from the company that made the blackwing said that once a certain volume of air was flowing that the computer on the 02 did not have a scale high enough to mix the correct ratio of fuel, so once the air volume went off the scale the injectors went to wide open producing a flooding type effect. There was a fix but there was reprograming involved costing a few hundred if I remember correctly. I ended up putting the stock filter back on.
