Re: Help me decide..... Vararam or Vortex Rammer? (RMilla17)
They are both expensive and involved, and it seems the vararam comes with a very cheap filter. In a worst case senario the vararam seems safer against water ingestion. I have a Halltech and I really like the batwing, just installed one on a freinds car. Have you looked at the blackwing?
Re: Help me decide..... Vararam or Vortex Rammer? (CPT Z06)
The Vararam costs twice as much, and to the contrary, it would be more susceptable to water ingestion vs the Vortex Rammer. I personally don't think it's worth the extra $200 for minimal if any gains over the Rammer
Re: Help me decide..... Vararam or Vortex Rammer? (RMilla17)
We sell both and the Blackwing.
We've had a ton of happy customers with greatly improved track times with the V/R. Results is what it's about.:)
The COLD AIR(VR being one of them) kits will out perform the non cold air kits.:) Their manufacturers will tell you that, and have, in print on-line.:)

This is still something that nobody has actually tested. I never tried the Vortex, but I got good results with the VR. Most cars will turn better times with the VR. My car now traps higher and gets lower ETs at the same time. That shows a true gain. I am recording faster cylinder fill rates and higher MAF rates. Mix that with the proper amount of fuel and you will make more power.

There can always be exceptions to the rule so there is no guarantee that every single car will see the gains I got.
The VR will beat the BW any day of the week on a similar equipped car. Cold air kits perform better. Whether you like the install or look or design or price is up to the individual.:)

Re: Help me decide..... Vararam or Vortex Rammer? (CPT Z06)
That's outstanding info rbartick, but is it the "ram" design or the very high flow filter?
Dyno gains obviously do not take advantage of any "ram" characteristics. I do not know if the "ram" design is actually responsible for any of the 1/4 mile gains I've seen. I don't really bother with the whole "ram air" debate anymore since that is not a selling point for me. I've seen small gains in MAP with the VR, but I do not know if they are large enough to actually cause a power increase. Maybe not.
I just try to get a little more air into the motor and mix it with the proper amount of gas. I like the design of the VR since it just makes sense to me and it looks factory. Starting another ram air debate would be worthless.

Roger that! and I too like the VR design, had a friend with a MY Z06 with mod red, and painted his VR red, that was very nice looking the way it matched the beauty covers.
Re: Help me decide..... Vararam or Vortex Rammer? (CPT Z06)
The other day I came across a guy in a new Z06. I asked him if he'd opened up his intake, he said no. I have a '00 vert with Vortex, and I was able to stay within 1/2 car length of him up to about 80. The Varam looks great and doesn't require cutting a hole in the radiator plenum, but both will get rid of the blahs when stepping on the gas pedal.
