Joe

I was looking at the valentine but I settled on the Passport 8500. I think if you go to http://www.radartest.com you will see what I'm talking about. The 8500 smokes everybody else and it upgrades with a laser shifter later if you want to invest in it. Just my opinion.....

Oh no, not again....!!!

Joe, I don't think anyone sells them except Valentine. You can get a used (but warrantied) one for about $30-40 less. As to the efficacy of the V1 versus the Passport, this has been discussed ad nauseum. You can do an archive search if you're interested. Good luck with whatever you decide.

:bs :bs This has been beaten to death and proven over and over that http://www.radartest.com is sponsored by Passport.
Try Ebay, but they sell for near new price anyways.

The V1 may seem pricey, but they are the best out there, and made to last. I have one of the very first generation V1s. It's never been serviced, and still works like a charm. I've also found their customer service outstanding when I've needed a part or had a question.

:boxing
Passport vs Valentine.......Either one is good. Niether one will work if you are rolling solo and you are hit with instant on. HOWEVER! It is nice to be able to identify the direction the alarm is coming from. giving you more information to determine the type of threat and Valentine offers that. No longer do I wonder if he/she is behind me or in front of me..coming or going.

Mike Valentine's "arrows" is right protected for at least a couple more years. Once the protection expires, watch out....Escort and the other manufacturers will be offering them too. And more than likely better and much more affordable.

The most important ingredient is the use of common sense. Radar detectors are infallable. Much easier to ease off the fun pedal when you get an "alert" then to go blindly.

You can call Valentine One and ask if they have any returned ones, which they will sell for 10% off and give you brand new accessories with it.

Ahh, this discussion is very interesting. I love hearing people's opinions.

Personally...I was always a valentine 1 fan. My friend has a 2000 Type-R (A TRUE Type-R...none of that "hey, I’m a GSR who wish's he was a Type-R).

He has a Valentine 1, and I have seen it save him NUMEROUS times...

However, I also looked into the Passport 8500...and as people have said...there have been reoccurring tests done, and overall (as of now) the Passport has come out on top. Now of course, Radartest.com does sell the Passport there and not the Valentine 1 (well, no one can except Valentine1.com)

However, with much debate, I finally decided to opt for the Escort Passport SRX.

Now, it may be a bit pricey, but I think it is well worth it...it was just installed yesterday at my local Chevy Dealership (yes, that is right. I somehow talked the dealership into finding the SRX for me...they originally had me down for the K40 but tests showed it is out of date and a pile, ya know?).

Sadly, I am 2000+ miles away from home (and my new vette) so my parents had to drive it in to get the paint and interior protection, with the new SRX.

The thing that sold me with the SRX is that it incorporates the Escort Passport 8500 radar detection technology, with the help of three laser diffusers!

What that means, is that if strategically placed (which they are) on your car, if a cop laser's your car, the car receives the signal, and sends an error message (not a "jammed" which is illegal) back to the cop.

Sorry this is so long!

:iagree:

That is exactly what I was saying. I am going with just the 8500 right now and probably later this year or early next year, I will install the shifter modules.

My brother has this on his S2K and it works great. To each his own, I guess. :jester
