Default FLP Headers and MTI Tuning

Got my Tuning done today on my '03 Z06 after adding the FLP's. I didn't gain any torque from just the FLP's but did gain 12 RWHP over BW and PRT's only. Since that first dyno I switched to the Vortex Rammer.

Notice how much TORQUE I gained from the tuning, as well as the additional HP. Overall I'm very pleased, even though I didn't get the mid to high 380's I would have liked, I'm still a happy camper. Money well spent IMHO. :D

Thanks Jayson!

Dyno 001 = Blackwing, X-Pipe, and PRT's :)
Dyno 002 = Vortex Rammer, FLP's, and PRT's :D
Dyno 003 = Vortex Rammer, FLP's, PRT's, and MTI Tuning. :D:D:D:thumbs:

You may have not gained any _peak_ TQ, but who cares? Look at how much flatter the TQ curve is above 5000rpm. :)

Then you got it tuned, and the gains in HP and TQ were very significant...more than likely due to a whacked out A/F ratio without tuning.

Did you have them install the hi-flow cats, or are you running off-roads now?

Good gains for minimal mods! :D

Actually the A/F ratio was pretty much on the money. He leaned it out ever so slightly. Most of the gain was from advancing the timing. I'm running the full FLP system with the Hi-Flow cats installed. I installed the system myself two weeks ago. So far, the rear 02's haven't thrown any codes :D

Yeh it's kinda strange now that I look at the graphs closer. The Headers did nothing until about 4700 RPM's w/o tuning and then you can see the separation and gains. Pretty incredible how much is to be had in tuning, and how it is across the whole RPM range.

Rick, you definetly need to do this!

382 rwhp with external bolt ons is fantastic. Heck, you'll even get better fuel economy just cruising.

I was there with Quin, the car sounds great as well. Good job Quin. I'm really wanting headers after seeing you and Wendell dyno tune with your headers Arrrgggggg. Wonder if I can swing headers, pool, new flooring, termite treatment, house paint.....this just isn't going to be a good year for saving money :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Did they use a wide-band A/F meter to record the A/F ratio? If they just used the scanner (which is what I gleaned from your post in the tech section), then they are using the O2 readings. I don't care if it's the "Tuning God" himself doing it... using O2 readings is better than _nothing_, but not accurate in figuring A/F ratios. I've datalogged this on a number of cars. 12.0:1 may be .89mv on one car and .92mv on another. Even the same car may show almost no difference in stock O2 voltage readings...when there is a _distinctive_ change in A/F ratio. We all know (including MTI for sure) that the factory O2s were not even designed to be accurate very far above/below stoich which is 14.7:1.

Advancing the timing undoubtedly leaned the motor out. They may not have taken fuel out by shortening the injector pulse, but advancing the timing can have the same affect on A/F ratio. :)

I'm not saying the tuning isn't effective _and_ safe. I'm sure it is. :D Your car runs great, so in real life it doesn't matter...just the end result.

I'd just poop in my britches if I saw someone without a wide-band tuning a nitrous/turbo/blower motor. Doesn't MTI have a wide-band anyway?

WA 2FST,

I'm sure they have what ever they need for the full gammet of tuning from mild to wild. It's my opinion that for headers only, the tuning methods used were fine. One thing about those setups you speakof.....there is quite a lag between the real time reading and the sample reading. It has to pull a sample through that long tube to an analyzer that has a delayed response time, to get the reading.

Does it take into account this lag time to match the proper reading to the Engine speed at which it was created? i.e. if the RPM's are at 3000 at "X" time but the analyzer makes it's analysis at "X+3seconds", is that 3 seconds subtracted back out to get a true analysis? How do you know that the lag time is consistent? The O2 sensors are 18" from the cylinders, and should give you the quickest response. Also, knowing what voltage a stock car will run vs where they run after mods will give a good tuner plenty of info to make adjustments as needed.
