Hello all, I was wondering who out there has improved on the stereo system on the 03's and what/how was done. I was told that with the Bose package, you would have to change out all components: head unit, amp and possible the speakers. I believe the speakers are fine (depending if there are not 2 ohms), just the head unit and or the amp is the weak link. Any help would be great. Thanks :flag
You can replace the stock head-unit with aftermarket ones and keep your stock speakers & amp by using an adapter. This adapter will run about $80 or so.
The front speakers (in the doors) have built-in amps. You can't replace one without the other, you will have to do both. However, the rear speakers are different. You can just drop in a set of aftermarket 6 1/2". You can take a look at my webstore for the popular Infinity and MB-Quartz brands. Here is the link. http://www.tlelectronics.com/catalog...t.php?cPath=25
I also have an adapter to allow you to add an amp into the stock Bose system. This PIE adapter run $29.99
Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
Thanks for the info Tuan Le. I defintely want to get better/louder sound.
Then dump the Bose, you know the saying "No highs, No Lows, Must be BOSE"
You will get the best bang for your buck by changing the speakers in the rear first, then the front speakers, and then a new head unit. Unless you have the cash do a full on system at one time. :conehead
Aren't the rear speakers on the Z smaller than on the coupe or vert? Will the 6 1/2s fit?
I am in the process right now of upgrading my stereo system, and I am putting in some 6 1/2's in the back, they will not fit in the stock location, with out doing some cutting and making the hole a bit bigger. This is also if you intend on keeping the stock apperance in the back part of the car.
And if you are interested, I can make you a great offer to for the complete system. :D
So Tuan, does the head unit power the rear speakers? Or is there a seperate amp for the rears. If I replace the door speakers, would i have to buy a amp for them? Please give a list of what I would need from you. Thanks
I am doing a video system and adding some bass. I am installing a 6.5 inch Alpine monitor, with an Alpine CD/DVD player. I am upgrading the front and rear speakers with Diamond Motorsports and am putting in a 12 inch Titanium Sub Woofer from Phoeinx Gold. Once I get it all done I will post a bunch of pics. I have had very little time to work on the car because of all the snow we have gotten.

Are the stock front speakers that much better than the stock rear speakers? I would think it is more important to get the best speakers/amplification up front to support your sound stage. I've heard systems with a decent head units, amplifiers, front component speakers, and subwoofers which actually retainted the cheap stock rear speakers (wired with capacitors to cut the lows and running off the headunit's wimpy little amp) that sounded absolutely awesome. Are the rear speakers in the hardtop particularly important for some special reason that they should get done first, or is it just because they are the cheapest? I would leave them for last.
