Did someone install the power antenna before you bought the car?
I thought all Z's come with the Fixed Mast Antenna, Coupes have the Windshield Antenna and Verts have the Power?
I've heard of several people opting for the power antenna AFTER they got their Z06, but you're the first one I've heard of that wants to get RID of it!!
I bought it from someone else yes. He only had it for 3 months and it has no other mods at all. I found it odd that's the only thing he did :)
I'm not too crazy about the power antenna, it's kinda long and I just don't like the way it looks and would prefer the shorty since it's smaller and also black.
If anything...just install a switch that controls the antenna so it doesn't go up when you're just listening to the CD player. That's a nice mod. Believe me the long whip antenna looks like a "Smokey and the Bandit" CB flash back. And btw, it's a cheapie too. I cut mine to about 9" and one of these days will go with a power antenna myself. Makes it much easier to use a car cover too.

Actually Campi, getting the instructions and reversing the order would be the best thing to do. He might of said it sarcastically, but that's what I would do if I were you......personally I have put them in before and it wouldn't be hard to take it out.....and I could do it without instructions...
Just unplug the wires from the antenna and remove it. Then install a fixed mast base and the shorty of your choice, and re-connect the antenna cable (not the power wires). Then trace out and remove the power/control wires.
Lighten up...actually the comments are quite bonafide. Most people do swap out their fixed antenna for an electric one. Maybe you can change your chrome mast for a black one and install the cut off switch as mentioned. It shouldnt be hard to take out the electric one if you still choose to do so..the shorties are nice. If all else fails I am sure any stereo shop would be willing to yank it out for you for a minimal cost.
COOL COUPE, was just making a joke. It put a smile on my face when I read it.
Anywho.. to your problem. I like stock too. Go back to the dealer and ask for a stock Z06 antenna. I bet they will install the antenna for a minor fee if you buy the part from them. Nothing to lose, just ask. Considering the cost of the z06, I'm sure you can handle the costs for this minor install. Saves you time and the trouble and any possible damage.
I thought this was a forum community looking to help each other, not bash and extend unwanted criticism..
If anyone has some USEFUL info on power antenna installation, please let me know. Otherwise, please keep your comments to yourself. Thank you.
Dear CampiZ06:
Please accept my appology for the "wise butt" comments, "bashing", "extending unwanted criticism", and providing comments that I had no right in sharing with other Forum members.
(Did I really do all of that all by myself?)
If I had known that you were so sensitive to the fact that your car has the power antenna that is distasteful to you, I would have directed you immediately to perform a search for power antenna installation tips and then suggested that you use that information to determine what it is that you need to disconnect and remove in order to safely perform the antenna change-out.
My error.
So sorry.
No offence intended.
After all, without people like you, what would this forum be?

Campi,
