Since the Z06 windshield is thinner than the other C5's (and the C5's is thinner than the C4), was wondering if anyone has had any problems with chipping/cracking?
Seems a bit more prone to chips to me but it could just be I'm used to driving trucks and spend more time above all the little rocks. Could also be that the winshield costs so much so I'm constantly checking it.
I'm on my second windshield. This first one was cracked by a small rock that was kicked up. The sad part was that I had just turned 500 miles when it happened..

How hard is it to get the right glass when you have to replace it.
Very difficult. Most places tried to replace it with the glass from the coupe! Several argued that they were identical. After several phone calls and two on-site visits, I finally found someone that I trusted. He did a great job on the install and it hasn’t leaked at all .. yet….
Comparing my 02 Z06 at 16k miles vs my old 95 Vert with about the same miles, as best as I can remember--- driving the same route with the same sand and rock trucks and Florida sand I see no difference. There are some sparkles in the sun.. I do see less spots at the bottom of the windshield. Maybe there is better airflow over the top?
I just had to replace mine, I was shocked when I found out it was $1,000.00.
The Z06 glass is definately different than the coupe (thinner) and if you have HUd (02 or 03) there is a special patch in the glass for the heads up.
:nopity
Here's a little known fact... our rear glass is also thinner than standard C-5 glass. Same reason. Lighter weight = faster car. Understanding the reason for the thinner glass.. I like lighter weight. :yesnod:
Both the front and rear windows are thinner to save weight. The F55 shock option is not avalable as well as the three cargo lids in the trunk. The battery is also lighter. Dave Hill and his gang did this to shave off 200 LBS. By making the car lighter it will perform better.
To answer your question about chips, yes I have them too. I got my first one at 200 miles.
13,500 miles - no rock ships - no problems at all - knock on wood.
Agree with others - Z06 front and rear glass is thinner - and it also has a special anti-lacerative layer in the front screen to allow crisper images from the HUD.
