[Z06] Short Shifter Preference?

It's not a "short shifter" like the others, and that's exactly why I think it's the best. I had the stocker, Kirban, Corvette Concepts, and Ripper before getting the Mallett. I had the Ripper the longest of the aforementioned shifters, and I wanted to like it since it was better than the stocker (and the others). But the fact of the matter was that it was difficult to shift, despite being precise. It wasn't fun to deal with. The Mallett uses the stock shifter base and geometry, so it shifts with complete ease.
Just wanted to give you my thoughts on an often-overlooked option!

It may be a great shifter but you can get a great shifter for 169 or less and it's called HURST! :smash: :smash: :D

The Ripper is the stiffest followed by the Hurst and the Kirban.

So bottom line, and if you do a search on the threads, most are happy with the aftermarket shifter that they purchased, because the factory unit for most of us needs a lot of improvement. That said many are happy with their factory shifter as well - to each his/her own.

And I know of at least one other convert to the Ripper after trying my car, maybe two :)

:iagree: Couldn't have said it better myself. Even my wife likes it.

It's often overlooked because it is $450!
I don't think that the intent of the original post was to see which shifter he should get for $169. Some (many?) people don't even KNOW that the Mallett shifter exists, and since it is SO different from these other shifters, I don't think there's anything wrong with letting people know about it. THEY can decide whether or not to shell out the bucks for it, since it's their money.
Ever try the Mallett yourself, Racer? Hell, you might even like it. :) (But, yeah, it costs WAAAAAY too much.)

And, clearly, money has to be not much of an object here to begin with... BUT, since the driving experience has gotten so much better with the new shifter, it's much easier to justify (or just forget about?) the high price tag.

i have never had a chance to try any of the other shifters on the market. my decision for the b&m in the z came from my past experience with b&m shifters in my c4 and my father's mustang.
