Do a search in the C5 tech section. Mike Mercury posted the complete procedure with pictures. I gutted mine and it took about 1 1/2 hours. I have a lift so add some time if you have to lay on your back to remove and install your system. When you see the pre-cats you will understand why they cost 5HP. Good luck
I did not gut them, but replaced the entire H pipe with the 4 cats, with a high flow unit from Random. What a difference in sound and power! The stock set up really sucks. I would go with a new unit...your looking at around $400, but it comes with an X pipe as well, and you'll still pass emissions. They flow much better than the stock with only a single cat and sound great. There's only one problem...when burning them in it will smell like rotten eggs for a while, this goes away after a months use.

Re: Pup Cat Removal on 2001 (95jersey)
Where did you get the Rando unit from? I'm really interested in doing something like this to mine. I was thinking about the Bassani dual x-pipe setup and totally eliminating the cats, but I might try this setup instead. We don't have emissions here, but I'd like to look at all the options.
You note the C5 add in the upper right hand corner. I think the Bassini pipes are just as expensive. These are definately not as loud as strait pipes. The fit and finish were top notch.
I have a 2000 with 2001 Z06 exhaust and I have removed the cats. It sounds great to me however there is a resonance at about 2300 rpm.
Ps I am 65 yrs old and love the sound.
I put on TPIS headers, which also replaced the pup cats....The weight savings alone was 27 lbs! The sound is more mellow, without being too loud...Good choice in my opinion
