[Z06] Basic Newbie Questions
1) What does FRC mean (stand for)?
2) What is C4, C5? (I assume body styles but what does the C stand for)?
3) I don't race, i want some less dusty brakes. What pads should I get for less dust but good street performance that is safe for my rotors?
4) Do they make covers for the two side compartments in the trunk? I found one for the center, but not for the sides.
5) How much would it cost for me to downgrade my wheel/tires to something more affordable and durable tire. Like i said, i don't race. Street only. Recomendations? Something smaller but that still looks good.
6) Recommended Air pressure. I looked in the manual 3 times and can't find recommended air pressure for tires. On the tire is says max is 44psi, and manual says somthing about more than 26psi, but what should it be if the tires are cold and outside temp is about 60-65F?
7) What wax should I use. Special for fiber?
8) How can you tell the diff in '03, '02, '01 etc...Z06's?

2. C4 and C5 are generations of the Corvette. C4 being the 4th generation and son on. The C stands for Corvette.
7. Use either Mothers or Meguiers three step process wax or use Zaino if you can afford it.
8. '01 Z06's dont have the HP rating on the Z06 badge like the '02 and '03. Not sure of any other differences besides the HP increase and color changes.

2) C is for Corvette. C1-C5 are representative of the different generations of the car
3)I have heard that the GM ceramic pads are significantly less dusty and do stop well, but that you will notice the difference in stopping power compared to stock pads
4) I think so, I believe they come in coupes and verts, therefore they should fit the Z06 as well...
5) Here is the question, are you worried about flats or just longevity/cost? a)If you are worried about flats, it is possible to have tire pressure sensors mounted on your rims and the monitoring activated in your computer with a Tech II programmer. Your inflator kit could still be used in a DIRE emergency, but would ruin the pressure sensor on that wheel. b) If longevity and cost are the concern, then know that depending on driving these tires last between 10K and 20K miles (easier driving obviously makes them last longer) On Tirerack .com you can buy them for SIGNIFICANTLY less than your dealer and most tire dealers will sell them to you for, lowering your cost. If you still have a concern, I believe that Z06 repro wheels can be had in standard C5 sizes (17X8.5 and 18X9.5) which will allow you to fit run flat tires (solving the flat issue assuming you have pressure monitors added with the monitoring activated) are somewhat cheaper (partially due to smaller sizes) and now there are a number of manufacturer options to give you better traction than stock runflats and probably better tire wear thatn stock runflats (and definitely better wear than the supercar tires) This would keep the overall look of the car and most people wouldn't notice the decrease in width. You most likely will as you will have ~10% less tire on the ground than stock and it will be that much easier to spin them (and it doesn't take a lot of effort to begin with....) Option a) around $400 bucks for sensors, shipping, mounting and dismounting and having the programmer magic worked (have them elminate the skip shift while you're there). Option b) around $1200-1300 (I think) in addition to the price of option a) if you would like flat monitoring as well. IF the wheels style wasn't as important you could probably buy a set of used C5 wheels for a little cheaper here on the forum.
6) 30 psi unless drag racing. This is measured with the tires cold (1st thing in the morning is best)
7) Zaino is the recommendation of many people on this forum. If nothing else use a HIGH quality wax that is designed for clearcoat finishes (eg Meguiars Gold Class)
8) 01 Z06 the badge on the quarter panel says only Z06, no hp listed and if you look closely, the wheels are slightly different colors of gray than 02-03. )3 will have the gray plastic-e corvette 50th emblems on the hood/trunk while 01-02 will have black plastic. You can also ask the guy hovering protectively around his car :jester
Hope this all helps, they are a blast to drive (I've had mine almost 11 months now and have begun trying to figure out how to add MORE power :D ) If you just want to give away your old wheels, I would be more than happy to take them off your hands!! :D :jester :yesnod: :D
Enjoy and let me know if you need some more info.
