[Z06] Altitude disadvantaged - help!
I tried different launch RPM 's with my best run at 2500. I crawled off the line once at idle to see if this would make any difference and made the first shift fine only to discover I was @ 6200 RPM right after the shift so I quickly put it into third. That was really bizarre. This run led to a 14 second pass - embarassing. I thought that maybe someone from Chevy was going to come out and take away my keys. My last run causing my decision to go home found myself trying to go sideways in third gear - I mean I was spinning after making the shift and had to back off the throttle to make sure that I did not hit the way. That was after I had removed my air filter in an attempt for a power boost. My driving obviously stinks with my best 60' tome being 2.32. After reading many posts about 1.8's and 1.9's 60 foot times I get really discouraged. I know the altitude is a factor in final ET but when the other guy ran 13 flat I was really done.
Anyone have any ideas on how a slow learner can pick up the trick of slipping the clutch? And any thought what launch RPM street tires can handle at this altitude? You posters have been very helpful so far but obviously I don;t get it. Frustrated...
but, I'll venture to guess that the best way to launch the z06s is with some clutch slippage. Dont just pop the clutch, rev the engine up a bit, ,and let the clutch out partially to keep the revs up and wheelspin down.
or, just barely rev it, and dump the clutch and go.
kinda depends on how sticky your dragstrip is.
also, have the rear tires deflated a bit. no higher than 30psi
1. Deflating the rear tires 25-27 lbs? Will have to "find" the right pressure to hook up at your track...it will vary.
2. In "CD" Mode
3. Windows up?
4. Quality Gas?
Just some misc. thoughts - hope they help. Good luck.
