Does everyone recommend getting a different intake over the stock one. I have mostly seen Blackwing ones in peoples sigs. Any other recommendations. Do they really add more HP, and if so how much could I expect on a stock Z06.
One other question (again, I am new) I have seen people reporting RWHP with are less than the advertised 405HP for the Z06. This is what I am assuming and if I am wrong correct me. The 405 is the results from testing the engine alone outside of the car (on a dyno?). The RWHP is the results from testing on the entire car on those drum things where the car is tied down and floored (don't laught, I said I was new--not really a "car guy" but enjoying thinking about becoming one).
Yes, the intakes make more HP. How much?? Probably in the 10-20 range. RWHP is HP at the rear wheels. It will be something close to 15% less the advertised HP. Most of the stock 02 & 03 Z06s will dyno around 355 RWHP.

The average aftermarket airbox will yield about another 5-10 HP on a dyno after PCM learning completes and the fuel trims settle in. You might see a few more on the street when the car is moving due to cooler intake air.
This type of gain is not even close enough to make up for poor shifting & launching. Learn to drive what you already have and you will beat most other drivers with aftermarket airboxes at the track. If you car is going to be a purely street driven car then leaving the stock airbox alone is probably the way to go. You will never notice this type of gain on the street, but you may pick up a tenth or two at the track.
The 405hp is at the fly wheel and the actual hp is different at the rear wheels. As far as intakes, they do make an hp difference. As far as preferences you will find different answers from different owners. Personally I have owned the Blackwing and the Vortex rammer. Right now I have the Rammer and if I did it again would probably stick with the Blackwing. The Blackwing is the easiest for install, requires no cutting and can be installed in 15 minutes. The others might produce a hair more hp, but not enough to justify if you are just tooling around town. I think the dyno difference between all the intakes is between 2-5hp.
