When I get into my car when it is still cold, second gear doesn't seem to go all the way "home"(doesn't feel notchy or positive) and sometimes it pops out of gear. This has just started happening and it only does it while cold. Once warm it is notchy as ever. I have stock shifter. Obviously this is not normal. What's going on here? Anywbody have this problem? Thanks in advance.
My 2k did the exact same thing. Suffering from a moment of human stupidity I ignored it, except a month later I had to have the syncros replaceds. The tranny guy said the absolute best thing to do with a 6 speed C5 is to install a shifter with shift stops (Hurst, B&M, ect.) and swap the tranny fluid with something really good like RedLine D4 ATF. I did this the day after my ZO6 didnt want to go into 2nd or 4th when cold. Afterwards it shifts precise, solid and complete.
I highly recommend doing this. My friend did this in his '99 coupe and he loves it!
My car is a 03 Z06. I bought it new in Oct, 02. It only has 4000 miles. I have always shifted slow and I didn't have the problem you described but sometimes when cold, it did feel notchy.
But, last week I changed to Red line ATF with magnetic drain plug, it shifts a lot better. I also did the same to my differential. I'd recommand it to anyone. I bought the whole package deal from the mall last yr.
