I read a post a little while ago that said that you can get your steering input tightened or loosened by taking it in to GM and have them use their "tech tool" to reprogram it. Given that my dealership doesn't have any insight into the TSBs for my car as it is, I am pretty much going to assume that they will just look at me with blank faces and not know what I am talking about, no matter how I explain what I am looking for. Does anyone know exactly what I would be looking for in a "tech tool" to be able to reprogram this myself? Thanks!
If you haven't done so already, I would read Ken's Newsletter and/or email Ken himself. I do remember reading something that used to be in his newsletter about this. I believe that all they can do is turn the assist on or off. (If that much) The memo from the general said, basically 'can't be done'
Thanks for the advice, I emailed Ken. His response was that the dealership should not have a problem making the change for me, so that's what I will do. It is a Tech II programmer that they need to use for making the change.
Ken advised me that the dealership would be able to help me with this using the Tech II tool, but of course when I brought this up with them nobody there knew what it was that I was talking about. Anyway, they said that they would research the subject and get back to me. I'm going to follow up with them next week, so I'll drop a note when I see some progress. Cheers!
there is no steering adjustability. there are no parameters accessbile via the Tech-II relating to steering.
in late 98 when the FRC first came out there was erroneous information published by GM re that there was 'steering sensitivity' control accessible by the Tech-II which would allow one to 'firm up the feel' and 'decrease the non linear reduction of steering effort as vehicle speed increased'. this was totally wrong and was quickly retracted. for a bried time, all the track junkies were trying to get the steering to feel at 140 mph the way it does at 20 :)

btw - C5 steering is one component for which there are No aftermarket parts..
Thanks for the info, David. That could justify the blank looks that I got at my dealership when I asked them about it! :)
I'm actually looking to get the feel at 20mph to be like that at 140mph, I find the low speed input to be too Cadillac-esque, you need to crank the wheel a lot further than you would think for a sports car. I prefer a very crisp wheel, where I don't have to turn much more than 9 - 3 positioning to make a turn.

Spoken like someone who has owned an early Z51 C4! I've been looking for ways to speed it up, too, and as 'no cure' says, no one offers anything.
