Iridium plugs are claimed to be better than platinum or copper as they can use a smaller tip without sacraficing durability. They claim the smaller tip provides better power and improved efficiency.
While plug wires can dress up your engine bay, the HP increase is questionable. There is also debate on whether it's worth the time or trouble to change out the stock platinum plugs on a new, stock engine (nitrous, turbo, blower cars have a good case to go to colder plugs, etc.).
