Default Recently Lowered, Few Questions......

I have a FRC, so i cut the front bushings and the front lowered 3/4" with the stock bolts all the way down..

I purchased an after market bolt set for the rear and currently the rear sits 1 1/4" lower. The Car actually sits pretty level with these measurements.

I recently took a trip up to PA and their roads Suck to put it lightly... I assume it is the rear, but when i was hitting the some of the bumps the rear seemed to bottom out or something and it was VERY harsh on my back.. I know that lowering the car would effect the driving but this is quite drastic.

Is this because the shocks have that much less travel??? would raising the rear up 1/2" help at all??

2nd question, are rocker rails worth it? do they really work? When in PA i hit my rockers pretty hard ( i thought i cracked them ) but it turns out i just scraped them pretty good.. To avoid further damage i would like to try something, but wasnt sure how well the Rocker Rails hold up to abuse?

Thanks

Lowering the car will make it feel a little stiffer. And yes the A&A rocker rails and frame savers are definintely cheap insurance for lowered cars.

My rear looks about as low as yours, but my front still has some decent height to it...

I dunno, since it is my daily driver - i may raise the rear a little and see how it goes?

I bottomed out quite a bit with my stock shocks, I switched to Bilsteins and I very rarely bottom out now. The rocker rails absolutely do work and they take a beating and keep on protecting.

Did you change just the Rear or all Around? Seems as if i am only bottoming out on the rear?

(May be in my mind)

You are right, it was only my rear that was bottoming, but I bought Bilsteins for all 4 corners.

Yes, the bottoming out is the shocks. you have lowered the rear enough to shorten the travel to much.

If I were you I would go back and take the stock rear bolts and cut the first two bushings top and bottom and reinstall, that should put you back in relationship to the fronts. You have lowered the rear to much by about an 1/2 inch but don't measure from the wheel wells use the frame rails or ball joints. this car C5's) needs a little rear rake in it. I have 1/4" higher in the rear in relation to the front on mine.

I actually raised the rear up what looks to be about 1/2" (still waiting to see if it settles a bit more) and it did seem to stop bottoming out the shocks..

I did like the look of the rear being down a bit more, but i parked next to a 50th convertible (stock) and his definatly looked like a 4x4 compared to mine :D

It seemed like i did not notice the bottoming out until i had a passenger.. i may have to summon my buddy for another ride to ensure the problem has been resolved.

Thanks for all your input!

Yep, get Andy's rocker rails, they ROCK. My Z06 GRRIIIINNNDDDDSSSS every time I enter my garage, nothing I can do about it, and with the rocker protectors my Z06 body is safe again. Great over speedbumps too. I'm lowered to the max stock settings and need every bit of protection I can get! Be sure to get his protectors for the front too, they rock. :)

Looks awesome lowered to the stops with the CCWs!
