i don't like the fuel rail beauty covers and want to put C5-R tall valve covers on my motor, but first i'll need to relocate the coils which i'm guessing are in the same place on the stock valve covers as they were on my 02 z28. so does anybody know of a vendor that makes bracketry for this purpose or am i gonna have to fab up my own?
btw i am planning on a 427 in the near future so the valve covers won't be a poser part for long :D
i just talked with a guy at katech and they're going to be releasing a complete kit with valvecovers and brackets in a month or so. from what he said i guess the ones they sell for the c5-r assume an o-ringed mating surface and dry sump oil system and there are oil control problems and gasket problems trying to use them on stock ls1/6 heads.
We have new billet valve covers (not casted) that incorporate the stock rubber gasket insert. They are available in satin, poilished, or can be anodized in common colors. We are also working with the same manu on a coil pack relocation kit that will remove the coils from the top of the motor completely. If there is any interest I may entertain chroming or powdercoat services for the fuel rail... on a core exchange basis. I hope to have pics of the coil relocation pack soon... right now I'm just trying to make sure the whole package winds up on Nates ride when it heads off to Bowling Green for CI4 :) Check with us in a week or 2...
Bill - Do you have a pic of the billet covers???? I've been looking for a decent set for 6months. My motor will go back together soon and it would be nice to get rid of the friggen Fuel "Drapes".
Do you think GM could come out with some " Motor Doiles" soon???
I have made some sets of coil relocation brackets and am at the tooling up stage of valve covers, but haven't started them yet due to uncertainty of demand. If xtreme has a nice set available for a modest price, I won't bother. I am currently using the C5R covers, but as stated, they are not ideal because of the location of the hold-down holes as well as gasket issues. Nate, can you e-mail me pix of yours and let me know price. Like I said, if you have a viable option, I'll poopie-can mine and go with yours on our cars.
I believe haltech has a coil relocation setup. They had a post in the parts for sale section running a special on it for the month of May. Do a search or check their website.
