What I’m asking are all Z06 engine build the same? Are some engine peppier then other engines? If not how can I tell if I’m getting a live Z06 or a dud?
Not quit sure what you mean by "build the same". They are not the same engine as the coupe or vert. The 2001 Z06 has 385hp and the 2002/2003 has 405hp. The Z06 engine IS faster than the coupe and vert's. Didn't know there was any Z06 engine built that was a "dud".
If you look at dyno #'s from a lot of Z06's, you will see that they are about 355 rwhp. bone stock, but this is the average. You will see + or - 10rwhp, so the range is 345 to 365 rwhp, bone stock.
This range is because of cam timing differences, compression differences etc. That is why one particular car is faster that another.
First off there is VERY lttle variance motor to motor, I see you have a 99 FRC (not a Z06 - not that it matters) so make sure you are comparing to other FRC's, not a 2001 and up Z06. The variance you see in dyno runs is more to do with different dyno's and/or different days. A dyno is a relative measure of power, not an absolute.
So, look up a Chassis Dyno shop in your area, hook up with your local Vette club, and enjoy the car. And don't forget to wave!
