[Z06] Tormented a BMW Z4
The light turns green and he guns it through the turn and stomps on it. He pulls about 5 car lengths on me as I chill through the turn and drop it in 2nd. I stomp on it to 60 mph in 2nd and I'm right on him (reeled in about 3-4 car lenghts). I shift into 3rd and sit at 60-65 mph for a full 2 seconds as he starts to pull away again...after he gets about 10 car lengths, I stomp on 3rd and stay in it until 90 mph. He is still on it but I reeled in about 8 car lengths going 60-90 in 3rd. I back off after that as we were getting near the merge area.
Anyway, those Z4s go pretty well for a 6 but it is amazing how much of a difference there is from 60-90 mph in 3rd.
The Z4 is pretty strong in 1st and 2nd but can't compare AT ALL in 3rd. From this point on, I'm referring the 3rd gear as the humiliator! That's when you can really tell the difference between a sports car and a supercar....

THIS is tormented!
That's the car I owned before I bought the Z06. They are pretty seriously underpowered in my opinion, which is why I didn't purchase another one after the crash. Once they come out with an M version I'll consider it.
It's not a chick car any more than the Porsche Boxter is. They're quite quick, excellent handling, superb ride, and amazingly strong in a crash.
The story:
We were on a SF Bay Area Z3/Z4 meet with 14 cars. I was in my older M Roadster, car 12 of 14. My girlfriend was driving my new Z4, and there was one more Z3 behind her.
We're heading up old page mill road, 3 miles into the drive, only going about 25mph. A large white utility truck comes barreling down the twisty mountain road in the opposite direction, runs wide over the double yellow, and forces her off the road.
She did a great job avoiding him by swerving to the right, but the left rear tire caught some wet mud, fishtailed hard to the left, she dialed in opposite lock steering, got the car going straight, but the road was curved at this point and she went over a cliff.
She went down 150 feet, the car rolled three times, with the top down, and finally stopped by landing on a tree.
And she walked away with two scratches.
No injuries whatsoever. Friggin' amazing. The story is on page 10 of this month's BMW magazine, it's the first Z4 crashed/totalled in the real world.
So, once the Z4 was gone, I decided to upgrade to a car with a little more power, the Z06.
And then supercharged it.

Now THAT'S a tormented Z4!

On a related note, I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed this but it seems like BMW tends to under-rate their engine output numbers. Either that or they work some other form of magic. Because a 225 hp (3250 lbs) 330ci ran head to head with a 280 hp G35 coupe that weighes the same and equaled it's acceleration performance in every respect.
I also previously owned a 1999 328i rated at 193 hp and that car pulled stronger from 60-100 mph than my current IS 300s with 215 hp (I even tried driving a manual Lexus 300 is to compare). Not a huge difference but the beemer was just a little stronger in every way, despite the supposed 22 hp deficit... Both cars weigh the same, similar CD, similar gearing...Anyway, just an observation.
