Default car lifting advice-- how do you guys do it?

hi all,

had a rather unpleasant experience yesterday while trying to get the rear of the car jacked up-- i put down some plywood and got the front up on the rhino ramps just fine, but while trying to get the rear raised, i found my jack wouldn't go under the rear jacking point and still have some room for a 2x4. so i tried using the rear passenger side jacking point (it was higher cause the front was already up on the ramps). it was working fine until it got about a foot off the ground and then the wood slipped out and she came down on the jack head cracking the plastic around it-- i wasn't too upset cause i wasn't under the car and the panel that was damaged was the one i mentioned in my other post with the gouges in it and i was going to have it replaced anyway.

BUT for next time i want to have a better system, so anybody that's already figured it out i'd love to hear your thoughts on what works-- hopefully your first time wasn't as $$ as mine.

thanks,
patrick

Hi ppk1911 -

I noticed the same thing - my jack will not fit under the rear cross-member with my "vette-board" on the jack -

Just lift up on the rear of the car and then slowly release the car to settle back down - the car will not settle down fully and this will give you enough clearance to get your jack under there with your board in place.

I then use the LAPD pucks and a small square of 2x4 on a jack stand to finish the process.

best regards -

you can also make you own pucks
Using hockey pucks from a second hand sports shop and some Eye hooks from the hardware store and some JB Weld to glue the pucks together.
I have the instruction somewhere on my computer if you want them.
Made all four of mine for around $20.
