Default What hooks better!????! Ok, got the info

Im trying to decide which way to go:

Go with L.A.P.D.'s Motorsport wheels in stock sizes but with 18's up front & BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KD all around
or
HRE 541, 18x9.5 front & either 18 x13 or 19x13 rear with Michelin Pilot Sports, running 345's rear

I know the 345's would look bloody gorgeous, but what I am mainly wondering is which has better grip: 295 G-Force T/A KD's cuase of how sticky they are?? or 345 Michelins cause of how wide they are?? :smash:

The BFG's are definetly the cheaper way to go, but I want the best dry traction I can get. HELP!

Domo ariagato, gozaimasu! :D

This question is along the lines of what I asked in the C5 general forum. Is it better to go with a narrower (say 275) GY F1 GS-D3's or wider (say 295) Yoko's which do not perform as good on the tirerack testing, yet they are larger....so does the width of the tire make up for the lost ground from the tire not being as grippy?
This is a great question...and would like to see some definite answers because I'm still  .....

If you go with the 13" wide wheel, I do blieve that you will have to mini-tub the car. There are other issues if you lower your car, too. A friend did this and the spring gouged the inside of the wheel rim. If you don't go in the tire will stick out.

We both thought he would have a lot of traction with 345's, but it was disappointing.

I have had the Pilot Sports, and while they are a good all around tire, they are not real sticky. The KD's are supposed to be a lot more sticky as are the Nitto 555's, but I don't know how you beat the F1 Supercar tire.

Good luck and let us know what you go with.

OK, Sorry about the lloonngg wait, but lightning wanted to get to know my network. The lightning said hi, the network said bye  :banghead:

And without any further a-do (is that how you say that? ado, a do, adue..???)
Ok this is what i found out after talking to the gys at Tirerack, Michelin and BFG:

From what I understand it is really all dependant on how you intend to use the tire. The BFG tire is slightly softer than the Michelin but not enough that it would make a noticable difference when comparing a 295BFG and a 345Mich. The Mich is designed more for everyday street use. It has a smoother and quiter ride and will handle a little better in day to day driving. The Mich will have a slight advantage in straight line acceleration. I say slight becuase even though the tread is wider and almost as soft, the wight added from a wider wheel and tire also comes into play. The BFG is much better in the way of cornering due to the asymetrical tread design and the softer compound. Both the BFG and the Mich techs I talked to say the BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KD is a much better track tire, saying its design is more extreme in the way of overall perfomance with better cornering characteristics. And the Michelin Pilot Sport is better at the drag strip and in the way of every day driving, saying it has better road manners and a little better straight line traction.

The treadware is the same, BFG 200 Mich 220. So I guess in the end it comes down to price and what they will be used for. As for myself I rarely go to the strip and dont have the money to properly upgrade to 345's so it looks like I'll be going with the BFG's.

I hope this was informative and helpfull for everyone. I would still like to drive a C5 with 345's just to try them out myself, but 295's still hook real good.
