I am looking to buy a short shifter, but don't know which one is better? Maybe some experienced Z owner can help me. A B & M Ripper Shifter or a Hurst Short Shifter?
Use the search option and you will find a large amount of threads discussing this very topic. If possible try and find people who live in your area with the different shifters installed and see if they will let you row through the gears in their cars. This will help you make a more informed descion instead of just relying on the opinion of others.
I have used the ripper and the Hurst. I stayed with the Hurst, just felt better to me. Only problem I have is the vibration that everyone talks about.
There is a simple mod you can do to shorten your stock shifter. If all you want is a shorter thro. You just need someone with a welder. I think the instrctions were posted on this forum not long ago. Try a search if you want to go that route; otherwise I recommend the Hurst if you dont' mind the vibration that comes with it.
You might want to look at the Mallett. Most of the aftermarket shifters are very tight. If you like the ease of the stock shifter you'll like the Mallett. Very easy shift throws and the feel is exact and precise. The 2nd to 3rd shift is impossible to miss with the Mallett.
Hurst!!!!!!!!!!!!! Throw in some Amsoil Synthetic tranny fluid too. My hurst was a little bit notchy but not after the Amsoil. Very smoooooooth!!!!
