Let me begin by saying that I'm constantly amazed (and humbled) by the amount of technical expertise exhibited by posters on this forum. I'm so envious of guys who can jack their Vettes, install new exhaust or headers, reprogram the computer, put a new shifter in, etc.
My most daring D.I.Y. mod so far has been to remove the dealer vinyl logo sticker. I've never had any doubt I could "dismantle" my car..... it's putting it back together in working order that concerns me. Like, "I thought it'd be easy to install this Hurst shifter." Those would be the words I'd say to the wrecker driver and later to the service manager.
So, any other members out there who are scared sh&%#less about putting your own wrench to your $50K Z06?

I am much more worried about letting the service tech's mess with my car...You will soon get over your fears and you will be playing with your car - that is half of the fun!
Just make sure you go outside of the garage before you throw a screw-driver in anger  :D :smash:
Don't pay someone else $70/hr to do things you could be doing yourself. All it takes to install intake, shifters, and catbacks etc is a decent set of tools, the ability to turn a wrench, and some patience. Go for it!

:yesnod: :yesnod: And keeps their oily shoes and clothes out of your car as well.
yet people take their car in for warranty to have the innerds of the engine scattered about a dirty shop with the doors wide open to let all of the dirt in. It scares me to let anybody BUT me work on my on stuff.
35 years ago, (ouch that makes me sound old) I changed the oil in my mother's car. It was my first time "under the hood". After draining the oil and changing the filter the level on the dip stick was hardly down. A quick call to my brother away at engineering school had him rolling in laughter after I described what I had done. Drained the transmission oil and changed the engine oil filter. :lolg:
But I kept learning and went from changing oil to changing engines... and everything in between. I later worked my way through university as a motorcycle mechanic. The morale of the story is that none of us, with the possible exception of my brother, is born knowing all this mechanical stuff.

Holy smokes!! I did the exact same thing but I even went a step further. I actually drained the transmission oil, changed the oil filter and then added oil to the engine before I realized what I had done. Well, let me tell you, I didn't actually figure it out, it was my father that happened to be checking up on me that figured it out. Needless to say, he laughed his azz off!!
On this car, I have installed a BW with a CF air bridge, hurst shifter and hard wired my Passport 8500. I did all this with the help of everyone on this forum. Trust me, you can save yourself a lot of money and heartache if you do it yourself. Nobody will take care of your baby like you will!! :jester
