[Z06] "Low Oil Level" on DIC
Now for the background. This past weekend i drove to North Carolina to visit family. 800 miles round trip. I checked the oil when i got there to see if it had burned any and the level was half between low and full, so i thought it didn't burn any.
That is about it. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Should I take it in to dealer if this keeps happening?
Also, I have seen posts about people checking past codes. How do you do this? I saw something about holding in one of the DIC buttons while pressing one of the other ones, but have not gotten this to display any of the past "Low Oil Level" codes.
TIA.
If the sensor is working correctly, you should have the following condition ...
Turn key to RUN (don't start engine). Message apppears ..... LOW OIL ..
Turn key to OFF
Turn key to RUN (again, don't start engine) Message should reappear.
If you get the message, and have not started the engine, turn the ignition OFF and manually check the oil level with the dipstick while the car is sitting on LEVEL GROUND. If the dipstick shows adequate oil in the oil pan, then either the oil level sensor is bad, or the wiring between it and the PCM has a problem.
Having the oil level slightly above the FULL mark on the dipstick, assuming you are checking ON LEVEL GROUND, is not a problem. If you read your owner's manual, you will see that GM recommends adding an additional quart over full if you are taking the car out on the track.
Obviously, if the oil in the pan is below the ADD mark, and you are getting a LOW OIL warning, everything is working fine, just be sure to add the needed oil ASAP.

The following will help you reset the code:
Press and hold options and then press Fuel 4 times while still holding the options button you must do this quickly. A message will appear saying "Diagonstics" then it will automatically read off the codes. Like....02-PCM(No codes)....03-BCM(No Codes)...ect. if there is a code it will look something like this 02-PCM (1052H) NOTICE THE H at the end of the code, That represents a code that has happened in HISTORY. If there is a C after the code it is CURRENT.
To clear the codes let it automatically cycle through the codes then it will come to (MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS) this is where you can clear codes. Use the options button to scroll forward and the TRIP to scroll backward find the code(s) to be erased like 02-PCM (2Codes). To erase this, press and hold the reset button until it says "NO CODES" There you have done it!!!. To exit the Diagonstic menu press the METRIC BUTTON.
It would be a cheap troubleshooting method and they're easy to install.
I had a related sensor fault on a 01 Z06 that turned out to be the wiring harness. The wiring was wrapped tightly and subjet to high temps, causing wires to short through their insulation. This is rare, however.
Thanks guys. I will keep an eye on it though.
