I have a 2001 Z06 and a couple of days ago i received a message on the DIC which read High Trans Temp? Should I be concerned and/or what should I do about it? Would appreciate any feedback.
Were you doing something that might have stressed the transmission, such as high speed runs on a race track, or your 15th blast down the drag strip, when this occurred? :D
Or was it a very hot day, you were sitting in traffic, and everything around you was disappearing in the heat shimmer?
If so, probably nothing to worry about. If, however, you'd only just started the car, and it was a cold rainy morning, I'd be inclined to think there may be a sensor problem... Check for codes and post if any show up and we can see if they indicate any kind of transmission problem.
I have seen the message, but I was lapping a trrack that is very hard on the transmission on a very hot day ... so no big surprise, I just backed off and ran a couple of "cooling" laps where I quit rowing through the box and let the engine torque do most of the work .... :steering:
The "High trans temp" on the DIC comes on when the tranny reaches a temp of 270*f. You can hit the reset button and your tranny temp will be displayed on the DIC. It will stay displayed till you select another button. I hear that it will say "Trans hot" after that if you don't cool it off. Not sure what temp the tranny has reached at that point. I would suggest a tranny cooler if you are going to continue to drive at these extremes.
Nah, I do that going to work every day and have never seen a temp problem in the transmission ..... OK, so, I'm lying !!!! :smash:
Very cool, were you doing the Silver State Classic or something like that ??
If you're gonna run like that every day (let's just say that this is YOUR daily commute :D ) then you might want to consider a tranny cooler for the car. GM Performance parts has one listed as Part Number 12480080 at: http://www.gmgoodwrench.com/gmgoodwr...parts/home.jsp
Just enter the part number in the SEARCH box and you'll see what comes back. Maybe someone else can share their experience with tranny coolers from other makers?
