I installed the vararam over the weekend, and finally got some good weather. I notice I now have a small whistle when I give it the gas. It seems to just kick in when I start to give it gas, then go away. Is this just the engine sucking more air, or do I have a problem? Thanks in advance...
I think what you are hearing is normal. If it were an air leak you should have thrown some kind of engine code. I also installed the vararam this past weekend and noticed a similar noise while the hood was open.
Joseph,
That is normal for AFTERMARKET intake systems. (I am surprised to here some guys say they here it on their stock intakes.) I have tried and dynoed several aftermarket sysyems: 1.Twin flow air intake 2.blackwing
3.vortex ram air and 4. stock w/K&N all with aftermarket air bridges(MAF to TB). The reason you just here it when you first apply the gas is because the increased air builds up by the throttle body and when you first apply the gas and the throttle plate begins to open the air that was built up rushes around the plate causing the whistling noise. It seems to be louder with systems that require cutting the radiator shroud.
P.S. By the way, guess what happens when you switch to a larger throttle body....louder whistle. :yesnod:
I hear mine whistling all the time at idle... Completely stock. I never thought of it before because it sounds just like the TT bleedoff that I'm so used to hearing.

<Likewise, mine is completely stock and it almost sounds like it has turbos sometimes with the way the engine whistles! I think you fine>
yup, yup
when i slow down i can hear liek soemthing slows down with me.... weird...
I think some of the guys with stock cars that hear this whistle are hearing the gears. There is a faint whine of the powertrain if you listen closely.....almost like a supercharger sound. This may be what some of you are hearing.
