I went through the same decision process a few weeks ago when I put new rubber on my car, and in my case - based on how I drive, wet vs dry, street vs track etc. I concluded that the F1 SuperCar tires were right for me. It is hard to make a recommendation on what MIGHT be right for you without the same info. For example, if it is an everyday driver (meaning see's a lot of rain), and you don't track the car the Pilots might be a better choice than the F1SC's.
Met a guy this weekend who only runs his Z06 on the track. He mainly uses the F1's. Other than street illegal race tires, he insisted that the F1's were the best around.
You can get wider tires for the rear without rubbing the fender, but this is not so for the fronts.
The F1s are priced right, they handle, thier wet weather isn't that bad and I've even driven my '01 ZO6 in the snow(about 20 times). I previously owned a 99 Coupe with runflats. Hated those tires, love the F1's.
Scott, you can get the MX in the stock 295 rear tire size; for the front you have to go either up to a 275 or down to a 255 - I don't believe they make a 265. People have done the 275 on the front apparently without problem.
Has anyone tried putting the Kumho 712's on the front and the MX's in the rear or is this a complete NO-NO? Someone also mentioned that someone tried putting on 275's instead of 265's up front does anyone here have any personal expierence with this. My main concern is rubbing when you turn the car hard.
There's no way the 275 is too wide on the front. They are 17x9.5" wheels. For example, a Camaro SS has 17x9s with 275/40/17s all around from the factory. I run 17x9.5 aftermarket wheels on mine with 285/40/17 all around. A 255 on a 9.5" wheel is tiny, I think it would be hard to mount (I put 245/45/17s on my 17x9s and it took the tire shop a long time to mount them, they didn't want to seat). A 255 is more like an 8"-8.5" size, not a 9.5".
Toyo makes tires in the Z06 size...tire wear rating of 280 vs 220.....Don
I fogot -$900..........The guy who owns the tire shop has them on his Vette & says they ride better & are better in rain(we have a lot of heavy afternoon showers in FL.) Have not bought them yet . I'm waiting to find some more input from the guys on this forum
Anyone tried them??
I have a almost new set of Michelin Pilots that I bought for my 01 coupe mounted on a set of 99 rims. Although they worked great on the 01, but they replaced the run flats, they didn't seem to perform well on the Z. We took the car over to Iowa to Mid Americas 2.2 mile track for a high speed run. My daughter brought the car back into the pits and we changed back to the F1's she said the car just didn't feel right she said it felt like it wanted to break loose in the corners. I know they are not as wide and they make the car sit a little higher and I think this upset it in high speed corners. Maybe if we had worked with the tire pressure some we could have got them working better. The stock F1's are really a heck of a good OEM tire I drove it them through a heck of a TStorm and they handled the water well but at a reduced speed the don't work well on snow we had to push it in the shed last winter because it wouldn't go up the drive way! I would like to have another set of tires for the Z just to autoX and roadcourse with so after I sell the pilots that will be my next project.
