Default Cleartastic Protectors !!!! Need Advice!!!!

Was looking out on Ecklers yesterday and found that there are protectors for Corvettes that use static to cling to specific locations on body panels. Obviously these locations are potential scratch areas that that could be scratched without something to protect it. I am looking at buying the Cleartastic set which is a 14 pc kit that is specifically designed to protect against road hazard scratching. There are individual cleartastic items that you can buy from Ecklers to protect other parts of the car that scratch from parking next to idiots. I was just wondering if anyone has used this kit or other cleartastic items to protect their vehicle ? Would you recommend this over getting an underbody protectant ? Or is there another type of protectant that works just as good if not better ? Does the forum recieve any discounts through Ecklers ?

TIA

These are the two items that I am considering:

Mirror Protectors

There is a good price from ZIP products under the GP section. I just got my 14 piece kit for $68 I think.

I put mine on and went to BG. 1400 miles later I have too much road dust sandwiched between the seams of the pieces that over lap. Looks awful on torch red. If I need to take these off and clean them that often it is a waste.

Also I was disappointed the sheets do not cover all the critical parts of the fender. They are too short.

Wrote Cleartasic an Email registering this compaint and never got a reply.

Last ones I'll ever buy.

I had the Cleartastic package on my '02 coupe. It lasted about six months.

First, the pieces that go on the door handles and mirrors are very hard to get on right, and they come off very easily.

Second, I made the mistake of running my car through a " touchless" car wash while on an out of town trip, and the high pressure spray took off a couple more pieces.

Third, if you wax / detail your car a lot (Zaino, etc.) then you obviously won't be able to keep the finish the same.

With all that said, there is definitely some protective value to this product.

This week-end I saw a car that had the entire front end of the car covered (what has been referred to as a "clear bra"), and the entire rocker panels from front to rear. The owner told me it was a 3M product, he had it on for more than a year, it looked great and he was very satisfied. He recommended that I contact 3M for the closest supplier / installer. He also said that a professional installation would be best because of all the complex curves, etc. I am going to check it out.

Good luck.

They're good for one, maybe two-time useage. They are reusable, but a pain to cleanup and re-install everytime. Hard rain and water will take them off.

I bought the whole set. Very difficult to install around the wheels properly.

The product is good for behind the wheels for stone/sand protection.

I'll stick to other methods for nose and mirror protection.

I had the 3M type adhesive film applied to my car. Nose, behind wheels, wheelwells, etc. It's expensive, but so was the car! I'd like to keep the paint on a while.

For those of you complaining about road dirt between "seams", I am at about 1400 miles right now, and no complaints whatsoever. Still have Memphis to Dallas left, so I'll take a good look again when I wash tomorrow. From what I've seen, I don't expect any issues at all. Ed has been great, and considering that half this country swamped him with orders just before the caravan, I think we should give the guy a couple of days to recooperate and I'm sure he'll get back to you.

Guys, thanks so far all the info that you have provided on this topic. I think I am going to steer clear of them. Based on some recommendations from this topic and my own research I think I am going to look into the 3M film and having it professionally installed.

Cleartastic is great!!! I drove from MN to BG through some horrific rainstorms and none of my pieces came off. You have to become proficient at installing the pieces or they will come off or get dust under them but it isn't that hard. I prep the surface carefully with Zaino and use a mixture of 1/2 Z6 and 1/2 distilled water to lubricate the surface. Get all of the bubbles out. I thought it was a pain at the first but that was because I was too impatient to work slowly and carefully. Once I mastered the procedure they are great. I do not consider these a year round item, I only use them on long trips and remove them when I get to my destination just like the front end bra. I think Cleartastic is the best $68 I've spent on my car.

THE WORST PRODUCT I have bought, followed the instructions to a TEE, went from Portland Oregon headed to NCM, they lasted less than 1/2 day before they started falling off, and the two that lasted through day one, looked like $ hit, so I would not waste the money, heck send me $50 bucks and I will send you them, well the two I have left the rest are on I-84

just my 2. cents worth
